The Irish Arts Center is playing host to the US premiere of ‘I Heart Alice Heart I’ by the Dublin-based Irish theatre-makers HotforTheatre.

The play is unflinching and astonishingly personal in telling the love story of two exceptional, opinionated women – Alice and Alice – who have been in love for the best part of six decades.

Filled with very Irish humor, the play explores the monumental journey of a most unlikely couple.

Written and directed by Amy Conroy, recently nominated for a 2011 Irish Times theatre award, this fresh, human, and hilarious piece from defiant new company HotForTheatre is performed by Amy Conroy and Clare Barrett.

‘I Heart Alice Heart I’ won both the Fishamble New Writing Award and award for Best Female Performance when it premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival. The Irish Times wrote that  ‘I Heart Alice Heart I’ was “impeccably executed…authentic…[and] genuinely affecting.”

‘I Heart Alice Heart I’ was originally produced at the Dublin Fringe Festival in September 2010 and was then revived as part of the ‘Reviewed’ series at the Dublin Theatre Festival in October 2011. Before coming to the Irish Arts Center it will be produced at The Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s national theatre in February 2012.

Performances are at the Irish Arts Center’s 99-seat Off Broadway theater (553 West 51st Street between 10th and 11th Avenues).

Tickets are $27 general admission ($23 for IAC members) and are available on irishartscenter.org or by calling 1-866-811-4111.
