Glenn Close has said that she’s delighted to announce she will start filming “The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs” in Dublin. The movie has been waiting to start for 10 years.
Based on a short story by Irish novelist, George Moore, Close will play the title role. It tells the tale of a woman who spends years pretending to be a butler. It’s set in Victorian Dublin, 1898.
Speaking at a press conference she spoke about how “original and different” the story was. She explained that she has been trying to get it made for over ten year and that it is a movie with “huge emotional wallop”.
Close has written the screenplay along with Irish writer John Banville. The cast includes Jonathan Rhys-Myers, Brendan Gleeson, Brenda Fricker and Maria Doyle-Kennedy, Pauline Collins, Aaron Johnson (“Nowhere Boy” and “Kick-Ass” ) and Mia Wasikowska (“Alice in Wonderland”).
At the press conference Close joked “The definition of a truly independent film is that they almost don’t get made…Ten years ago I was here hoping to make the film. I feel it is a really wonderful partnership and I’m very excited…Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would have this extraordinary group of talent both in front of and behind the camera.”
Director Rodriga Garcia, son of the novelist Gabriel García Márquez said “It is the kind of script that is moving and funny with a story that is compelling…It is something about people’s interior lives and their longing. It is rare for a script to bring together so many interesting themes.”
The movie will be shot over 34 days in Dublin from December to February.
