The “Harry Potter” era came to a close Saturday in Dublin as fans of the series lined up at the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2” premiere, to say their final goodbyes to a franchise that has been a part of them for the past 10 years.
Evanna Lynch, Domhnall Gleeson, James and Oliver Phelps greeted the adoring fans as they walked the red carpet of The Savoy Cinema in Dublin.
The 19-year-old Irish actress grew up on the set, as she was just 14-years-old when she began staring in the films as the loved character Luna Lovegood.
“I am quite sad,” Lynch said as she arrived. “It has given me so many opportunities and has given me confidence to go out and do things.”
Lynch has just finished her Leaving Certification Examinations and said that she is looking forward to playing roles that are a bit more intricate than the beloved, quirky Luna Lovegood, in the future.
A new face to the “Harry Potter” films, Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson, arrived at the premiere and was welcomed with just as much excitement as the rest of the cast that was in attendance.
Gleeson, 28, who is the son of actor Brendan Gleeson, had a minor role as one of the Weasley Brothers for the last two films and said that his appearance in the popular films has boosted his ability to land auditions for other roles.
He said that he was a big fan of the films before joining the cast and feels “very fortunate to get a chance to be in them, however briefly.”
The Irish actors as well as the rest of the talented cast have garnered their own personal fortunes from their roles on the films, but thankfully for the fans, the end of the “Harry Potter” series does not seem to mark the end of their careers in any way.
To make the film even more unforgettable and breathtaking, the final movie is the first of the eight installments to be in 3D. As fans left the cinema they happily described the final installment as an emotional but perfect ending to the series that began when most of them were just young children.
