Here's something the critics didn't see coming: Spiderman on Broadway is breaking box office records.

The U2 and director Julie Taymor co-production titled Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark had a legendary rough start and countless critical savagings, but in recent months it has turned into a cash cow.

Setting a box-office record at the Foxwood Theatre in New York, the spectacular show grossed over $2.07 million over the Thanksgiving holiday week, according to the Associated Press.

It's been a rocky road to victory. Two years ago previews got under way and the show was immediately slated. But it hasn't mattered. Since it ofically opened this spring it has consistently reached a full house, with more than 600,000 people attending since June.

But the multimillion dollar show is not out of the woods yet.  The show cost an estimated $75 million to stage, which means it will be years before it posts a profit.

To jolly that day along producers are dreaming up new ways to make fans who have enjoyed it return for a second viewing - by potentially introducing new scenes and even new numbers.
