Colin Farrell chatted about Christmas in Ireland and his upcoming movie “Saving Mr. Banks,” starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson, with late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday, Dec 17.

He told Kimmel that when he was a child he would “leave a bottle of Guinness” for Santa every Christmas Eve and when he got older he would “eat and get drunk and fall asleep to 80’s movies” on Christmas Day.

Farrell also discussed hanging out with the late Peter O’Toole and his difficulty of giving up alcohol as an Irishman. He said that when he went to rehab he announced that he had "a harp on my passport" and he was not giving up alcohol, just the “powder and the pills.” However, he did renounce alcohol, which, he said, made him an “absolute national letdown.”
