Christy Moore's song "Lisdoonvarna" has made it into the Penguin publisher's "Collection of Irish Verse".

The book is billed as a "definitive collection" of Irish poetry and spans 1,120 pages.

The singer said "I was absolutely thrilled when I heard about it. It’s just marvelous to get this sort of recognition. What a buzz."

The collection included Irish poets such as Samuel Beckett, Paul Durcan, Samuel Beckett, Patrick Kavanagh, Thomas Moore, Percy French, Oscar Wilde and Brendan Kennelly. It covers poetry in Ireland from the earliest times up to modern Irish poetry.

Seamus Heaney who wrote the introduction to the tome said it is "by far the most comprehensive and confident anthology of Irish poetry yet".
The song "Lisdoonvarna" is based on Moore's experiences at the Lisdoonvarna festival in County Clare during the early 1980s.

An amusing song, he quietly pokes fun at the event that he visited every year. He lyrics say "Everybody needs a break/ Climb a mountain or jump in a lake/ Some head off to exotic places/ Others go to the Galway Races." However the Lisdoonvarna Festival is chosen vacation every year.
