The 65-year-old action star announced in 2011 his 25-year marriage was over just before revelations surfaced that he had secretly fathered a child with their housekeeper Mildred Baena.

Although he accepts he betrayed his wife and can understand why she wanted to separate from him, Arnold still holds out hope they will get back together in the future because they are so close.

Asked if he still believes they will get back together, he said: "Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Maria and I are still in touch. If you've got kids, you'd better be in touch. But Maria and I have a great relationship.

"We've never had a fight about anything. This affair is just something that was my doing. So we have a good relationship. I think she makes a real effort. We work together on the kids, to raise them together. We talk pretty much every day."

Arnold and Maria have four children, Katherine, 23, Christina, 21, Patrick, 19, and Christopher, 15, and even though his marriage has ended in divorce proceedings the Hollywood icon feels grateful to have even met Maria and had such wonderful kids.

Discussing his life achievements, 'The Tomb' star told Esquire magazine: "In my personal life, I was very fortunate to end up with a terrific woman, to have four extraordinary kids with her. You remember these moments.

"Childbirth, being at the hospital for the first time, the baby coming out. Moments like that."
Speaking to the new issue of Glamour magazine, she recalled: "I remember being chased out of a restaurant by a bunch of girls after the first episode had aired. My wife, Lara, couldn't believe it. You go through life being anonymous and suddenly you can't sit in a shop any more.

"I met Lara when we first filming the first season of 'Glee', so although she was thrust into this world without wanting to be a part of it, it was brand new for me too. Back then I remember thinking that I had to go to every party. Because I don't drink, there's no social buffer for me, so it can be hard."
