Douglas Wheelock followed in Chris Hadfield's footsteps by tweeting from space this week with his tweet, “Hello, Ireland . . . from space! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Lá fhéile Pádraig sona dhaoibh!

Col Wheelock included a photograph of Ireland by night which he had previously taken from the window of the International Space Station.

Col Wheelock was born in Binghamton, NY and considers Windsor, NY to be his hometown.  His parents, Olin and Margaret Wheelock, still reside in upstate New York. To date, Col Wheelock has accumulated more than 178 days in space.

Wheelock took over from Hadfield this year. In 2013, on St. Patrick’s Day, Hadfield tweeted, "Maidin mhaith from the International Space Station! Happy Saint Patrick's Day to the Irish all around the globe. Good morning!"

Check out the great picture from space. Move over Chris Hadfield.
