Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny has appealed directly to Praveen Halappanavar to meet with the chairman of the inquiry into the death of his pregnant wife Savita Halappanavar.

"We need to find out the facts and the circumstances now," Kenny said.

The Irish leader said he wanted to "appeal directly to Praveen Halappanavar to meet with the chairman, Professor Sir Sabaratnam Arulkumaran”.

Speaking in the Dail (Irish Parliament) on Wednesday morning Kenny claimed there was a misunderstanding between statements being reported in the media, from Halappanavar’s legal team.

"It appears to me as if the legal team representatives of Praveen Halappanavar will not allow him to meet with the chairman of the investigation team," he said.

“Comments attributed to the man in the national newspapers are very different than what I see emanating from the legal team,’’ Kenny added.

The chairman of the inquiry is not being allowed to speak with Praveen Halappanavar as he attorneys have said they want a "full public sworn inquiry", Kenny said.

Sinn Fein leader, Gerry Adams criticized the Government’s handling of the matter as “ill-judged and mismanaged’’.

A dentist from India, Savita Halappanavar died of septicaemia on October 25th, seven days after she presented with back pain to Galway University Hospital. She was 17 weeks pregnant. Her husband says she was refused a termination by doctors,  as there was a fetal heartbeat still present, despite repeatedly asking for one.

According to the Irish Times, Praveen Halappanavar spent eight hours in Oranmore Garda station in Galway on Tuesday, giving his statement for the inquest into his wife’s death.
