Lindsey (12) was badly injured in the same accident that saw Kalie (15) lose her life after a runaway car, driven by a local schoolteacher, struck the two girls, during a carnival at local church of St. Paul the Apostle.
Jamie Gill (21) her older sister who also read her own letter to Kalie, read the letter from Lindsey, who is expected to make a full recovery but who is still in a local hospital.
“When I found out about your death, I tried to cry, but no tears came out,” Lindsey wrote “I just sat, and looked at the ceiling, and froze — thinking you were looking down and praying for me.”
She continued "I love you, and I always thought of you as my best friend, sister...I’m sorry I can't make it to your wake and funeral, but I am here trying to survive for you.”
Parents Karen and Damien Gill were also present.
Both letters remembered the good times with their sister and recalled happy incidents from their youth.
The Gill family had recently moved back to The Bronx after returning to their native Leitrim eight years ago.
Close to one thousand people packed the chapel at St. Barnabas, where Kalie attended the local high school.
