A 32-year-old Ecuadorian man appeared in court in County Cavan this week charged with operating a male brothel.

Appearing before Cavan District Court, Xavier Salazar Valencia was charged with keeping a brothel in Cavan town. Valencia was then remanded on bail to appear at Cavan District Court on July 14.

According to a report in the Irish Independent, Garda Sergeant James Fraher told the court that he had met with the accused, and had cautioned and charged him.

The court interpreter explained to Valencia what was happening. In reply, Valencia told the court: "I will pay the fine."

Sergeant Fraher told Judge John Coughlan that the defendant was to live in North King Street in Dublin. Valencia was then directed to surrender his passport.

Judge Coughlan told the court it was alleged that Valencia was a "pimp."
