An Australian doctor has held a workshop in Dublin advising people on how to end their lives.

Quickly nicknamed Dr Death by the media, Dr. Philip Nitschke runs an Australian group called Exit International, which gives permanently ill sufferers advice on how to end it all.

Over 50 people attended the meeting, including many terminally ill patients. One of them James King, (71), said he wanted to take his own life once he became "incapacitated."

"I don't want to be a burden on anyone, especially myself. I think everyone should have the right to decide when they've had enough of this life and I don't think any organization should have any say over that,” he told the Irish Independent

"Human beings live for 1,000 months. Most of mine are gone. I only have a few left and I'm going to enjoy them. I'm not going to worry because I've no fear of death. Like anything else, it's part of nature."

Nitschke showed a video that he said was designed to "empower" people. It showed several people taking their lives including by using a plastic bag and also auto injecting deadly drugs into their system.

He said that when people "get these strategies in place" they stop worrying and live "longer and happier" lives.

After the public meeting, a closed-door session was held where people got specific advice on how to end their lives.
