A Donegal mother who lost her two teenage daughters to suicide is to sue the education authorities who ran the school attended by one of the girls.

Lorraine Gallagher is still struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss of 13-year-old Erin and 15-year-old Shannon last year.

Erin took her own life in October of 2012 after allegedly falling victim to bullies online and at her school, Finn Valley College in Stranorlar, Co. Donegal.

Her elder sister Shannon committed suicide just weeks later as she failed to cope with Erin’s death.

Now the girl’s mother Lorraine is to sue the Donegal Vocational Education Committee, since renamed the Donegal Education Training Board, over Erin’s death.

The 37-year-old Gallagher is to sue the educational body for mental distress, according to a report in the Irish Independent.

The report says her legal team claims the school failed in its duty of care to provide a ‘controlled, monitored, safe, supervised working environment’ for Erin.

Lawyer Patsy Gallagher has confirmed to the Irish Independent that he has served legal papers on the Donegal ETB.

The paper says that further proceedings are being prepared to be served on another local authority.

Patsy Gallagher said: “The necessary papers have been served on their legal representatives.”
