Mega-rich telecoms and media boss Denis O’Brien has led the Irish-born charge on the Forbes 400 list of the world’s billionaires.

O’Brien is joined on the list by fellow Irish-natives, financier Dermot Desmond and Glen Dimplex owner Martin Naughton.

The head of telecoms firm Digicel, O’Brien comes in at number 233 with an estimated wealth of $5.2bn.

The Irish Independent, in which he is a shareholder, also reports that Glen Dimplex owner Martin Naughton has an estimated wealth of $2bn while Desmond’s fortune is worth about $1.8bn.

The top Irish citizen however is Pallonji Mistry who has wealth valued at $9.7bn, largely from a share in India’s Tata Group, and is number 96 on the list.

John Dorrance III, the grandson of the founder of Campbell Soup, comes in at 521 with an estimated wealth of $2.4bn.

Mexican Telecoms mogul Carlos Slim Helu occupies top slot for the third year in a row with an estimated wealth of $69bn.
