Dublin’s archbishop Diarmuid Martin called upon Catholics to have “no fear or timidity in bringing the message of Jesus, in its authenticity, into the world of today” while delivering his Easter homily at  Pro Cathedral.

Journal.ie reports on Archbishop Martin’s call to action. Archbishop Martin also said during the homily that devouts should bring the message of Jesus “onto our streets, into our media, to our younger generations.”

Later in his homily, Archbishop Martin explained how the Church is embarking upon two forms of renewal this Easter - the celebration of the resurrection of Christ, as well as the “process of renewal and purification” being undergone by the wider Church in Ireland.

Archbishop Martin also spoke to the notion of morality, and how it is not “compartmentalized” away from religion.

“Where believers, whether lay or cleric, betray their calling to foster harmony, truthfulness and integrity in their own lives and in public life, they betray resurrection; they betray and damage their Church, they betray and damage human dignity and community.”

The Easter Mass was attended by several Irish dignitaries, including President Michael D. Higgins and  the Papal Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Charles J Brown.
