Convicted of raping his daughter, Liam Adams said Ireland should crack down on pedophiles
Liam Adams, who was found guilty of raping his daughter over a six year period, said in July 1998 that Ireland needed to crack down on pedophiles and said he could name some.

Adams was found guilty of raping his daughter, Aine Dahlstrom, over a six year period from 1977 to 1983. His daughter was aged between four and nine at the time.

However in an article in the Irish Independent in July 1998 Adams said he know of a “very well organized arrangement” of pedophiles.

The article read “Youth community leader Liam Adams says there is a strong local involvement in what he described as a 'very well organized arrangement' which may also have links in Donegal. 'We have names of well-known business people who we are 100pc sure are involved.”

"But he says that the authorities should be doing more to investigate the situation based on the evidence which has emerged so far."

Last week Adams, the elder brother of Sinn Fein’s president Gerry Adams, was convicted of raping his daughter, who is now 40.

She waived her anonymity to appear in court. She the first time he had raped was while her mother was in hospital giving birth to her younger brother, Conor, in 1977. In another incident she was raped by her father at a flat on Belfast's Antrim Road while her brother was asleep in the bed beside her.

Adams, who was allegedly a heavy drinker, also forced his daughter to perform sex acts.

The allegations were first made against her father when she took part in a television documentary in 2009. A short time after it broadcast, Gerry Adams revealed his own father Gerry Snr, a veteran IRA man, had physically and sexually abused members of his family.

Within days of the documentary being broadcast Liam Adams fled to the Republic claiming he would not receive a fair trial in Northern Ireland. At the time he reportedly handed himself in to police in County Sligo but they failed to detain him because the police officers did not have the correct documentation.

Adams was finally handed over to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) in November 2011 after losing a long extradition battle.
