With the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald looming just weeks away, ReelzChannel will feature a new look on the killing in a 'docudrama' that suggests that a Secret Service agent fired one of the bullets that killed Kennedy.

An article from AP’s the Big Story looks at the new docudrama.

The docudrama "JFK: The Smoking Gun" is based on the works of two researchers; Australian police detective Colin McLaren and the book "Mortal Error: The Shot that Killed JFK" by Bonar Menninger. McLaren spent four years working through evidence from Kennedy's death as well as ballistics evidence documented in a book by Howard Donahue.

The two-hour program airs on Nov 3 and it supposes that Secret Service agent George Hickey fired one of the bullets that hit Kennedy. Now deceased, Hickey was riding in a car behind Kennedy's limo.

"What we're trying to say is that it was a tragic accident in the heat of that moment," McLaren said to the Television Critics Association this past weekend.

McLaren said that when Oswald fired his first shot, Hickey attempted to fire back on Oswald's position, but die to inexperience and the car lurching forward, the shot went awry and accidentally hit Kennedy, potentially being the shot that killed him.

McLaren is aware of the implications that come with this idea, and says that "We don't suggest that he was in any way involved in a conspiracy." The official explanation from the Warren Commission concludes that Oswald was the lone gunman in the assassination.
