Tabloid target: British tabloids will do anything to link Susan Boyle to a news story no matter how ludicrous the connection
Tabloid target: British tabloids will do anything to link Susan Boyle to a news story no matter how ludicrous the connection

Take a look at these ridiculous headlines

"Susan Boyle's Pub Pal Jailed," "Susan Boyle Pub Barmaid Jailed for Heroin," "Susan Boyle Barmaid Jailed."

Those were three of the leading headlines in the British media today. All referred to one Annie McCormick, who helped two undercover cops buy heroin at a pub in the Happy Valley Hotel in Blackburn, Susan Boyle's home town.

Talk about guilt by association! The fact that Susan Boyle attended karaoke sessions there and knew the barmaid in question is enough to lead to the tabloids once more to doing their worst to Susan Boyle.

What connection has she got to the arrested and jailed woman? The same connection you and I would have to our local bartender, grocery worker or bus driver we see in the course of our daily lives.

Sure she knew the person, was even friendly with her but what has that got to do with the
story?

Why does Susan Boyle have to be named in the screaming headlines about the story?

The answer is pretty clear-- because it boosts sales and tabloids know that Susan is a magic name when it comes to that.

Right from the beginning they have done their worst to make Susan an object of fun and ridicule and false claims.

They have done their worst but have not succeeded but that does not stop them trying.

What's next? 'Susan Boyle's Plumber Gets Divorced,' Susan Boyle's Laundromat Raises Charges?British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Scottish like Susan Boyle, Resigns?

This is getting ridiculous and giving fellow journalists an even worse name - if that were possible - than they had at the beginning of the Susan Boyle story.

Although I have to say I liked one headline today from satirical site, the Spoof. It simply read "Susan Boyle WIns Nobel Prize"

Hey, with this magical woman you never know.
