Sharon Osbourne's apology to Susan Boyle falls well short of what is needed.
"Susan Boyle is a lovely gracious woman and I took advantage of that by poking fun at her," Osbourne said. "I would never want to be responsible for hurting Susan and I must apologize for getting a cheap laugh at her expense," she twittered.
Apologizing by twitter is the equivalent of apologizing by pony express in the old days. It is too late, too impersonal and lacks any saving grace.
Why couldn't Sharon Osboutne pick up the phone and direclty talk to Susan Boyle and apologize? Why couldn't she write a personal letter outlining how far she had stepped out of line?
Even better, why did she not have the courage to show up at 'Dancing With the Stars' and issue an apology in person there?
It is simple-- she lacks and grace, guts and good manners to do so,
I wouldn't apologize to Susan's cat by Twitter. It is the most nonsensical vehicle in the world to use in such a situation.
It is utterly impersonal, is not even directed to the person themselves but to Osbourne's shrinking fan base and has all the appearance of an act of contrition pushed on her by her publicity agent in a desperate attempt to save face.
Like Amanda Holden, Osbourne has learnt the hard way that ad hominem attacks on Susan Boyle are not good for your career.
What career you might ask in the context of those talentless two? One has a husband who made his name by biting off hamster's heads during his show, another rose to fame aboard the Susan Boyle bandwagon. She then tried to derail it as soon as she could when the spotlight switched off her.
In the midst of it all Susan Boyle has remained a paragon of personal integrity. She has not returned the broadsides or even made any public reference them. The woman oozes class. The other two just ooze.
