City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has praised City of New York employees who intend to donate a portion of their paychecks to the Hurricane Sandy recovery effort.

A portion of workers’ pay will be deducted from November 23, and will go towards supplying water, hot food, baby supplies, toiletries, clothing, blankets, cleaning materials and more, the mayor said. The donations will be tax deductible.

“I can’t thank our city employees enough for their dedication and hard work and I encourage those who can contribute to do so and help New Yorkers in need," Christine Quinn said.

According to DNAinfo, the donated funds will go to the Mayor’s Fund, which has already raised $35 million towards helping victims.

“So many city employees have done extraordinary work in responding to Hurricane Sandy, and we want it as easy as possible for all city workers to contribute to the relief efforts,” Mayor Bloomberg said in a statement.
