Chelsea Clinton has married her long-term boyfriend in the Astor Courts estate, in Rhinebeck, upstate New York.

Shortly after the ceremony the blushing bride’s parents Secretary of State and former President, Hilary and Bill Clinton released a statement.

It said: “Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends.

"We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day."

The ceremony took off at 6pm in the Astor Courts estate in Rhinebeck. A rabbi and a reverend presided over the ceremony as the bride is Methodist and her groom Jewish.

The wedding was attended by between 400 and 500 close family friends and relatives. The ceremony included a poem read by the couple.

Chelsea’s dress was by Vera Wang, according to a family friend who attended the nuptials. In fact Wang was spotted in Rhinebeck on Saturday evening where she was swamped by paparazzi.

The guest list seems to have been as star studded as was predicted. Ted Danson and his wife Mary Steenburgen were hounded by the press. Danson joked with them saying: “Are we the only celebrities in town?”

Speaking before the wedding Steenburgen said: “I’ve known her since she was a baby, so this is a big moment.”

Other famous names who attended were former secretary of state Madeleine Albright and a handful of congressmen and prominent Democrats.

As predicted the small town of Rhinebeck was flooded with members of the public waiting to catch a glimpse of a celebrity and press from around the globe, with TV crews from as far away as Japan. Camera snapped in the window of every town car that drove by.

Of course, security was tight. In fact. the Federal Aviation Administration made sure that the wedding was a no-fly zone until 3:30am Sunday.
