Former president Bill Clinton joined legendary Irish American rocker Bruce Springsteen on stage, in Ohio, on Thursday night, during an Obama re-election event.

Springsteen was a big supporter of the Obama's 2008 campaign and announced on his website on Wednesday that he was endorsing Obama's re-election. Thursday was his first appearance on the 2012 campaign trail, reports Reuters.

“For me, President Obama is our best choice because he has a vision of the United States as a place where we are all in this together,” a statement declared on his website.

During the event Clinton told 3,000 supporters, at a community college, that President Obama has saved jobs in Ohio when he bailed out the auto industry.

"When you were down, you were out and your whole economy was threatened, the president had your back. You've got to have his back now," Clinton said.

Delivering a 36-minute address, the former president gushed that it was “the first time in my life I ever got to be the warm-up act for Bruce Springsteen”.

Springsteen (63) retorted “I get to speak after President Clinton. That’s like I’m going on after Elvis.”

He added “I was frantically calling the E Street Band backstage going, "Quick, I need back-up, I need back-up!" Human speech has been monopolized.”

The “Born to Run” singer encouraged everyone to get out and cast a vote.

“For 30 years I've been writing about the distance between the American dream and American reality,” Springsteen read from a prepared statement

“Our vote is the one principal way we get to determine that distance.”

The New Jersey born rock icon opened the concert with “No Surrender”, and also performed “This Land Is Your Land” among several of his own hits, including “Promised Land”.
