Political heavyweights Bill and Hillary Clinton have vowed to stay away from New York’s mayoral race, due to a conflict of interest.
The 42nd President of the United States told CNN that the former first couple are keeping their distance from and their opinions out of the race.
“We are a hundred miles from that race,” President Clinton told CNN in an interview released on Tuesday, “and everyone understands that we’re not going to be involved as long as our personal friends and people [to] whom we feel obligations are involved.
"Neither Hillary or I was ever involved in the political campaign, and they understood that from the beginning," he said. "There are too many people running for mayor who have been my supporters, who supported her for senator, her for president."
Clinton pointed out he knows five of the candidates in the running to replace Michael Bloomberg when his term ends on December 31st.
“The feelings I have are all personal and since they are, I shouldn't talk about them,” he added.
Democrat Bill de Blasio served as senatorial campaign manager for Hillary and Republican John Catsimatidis is a personal friend. Also Anthony’s Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin served as a long time aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Bill officiated at the couple’s wedding in Huntington, N.Y. in the summer of 2010. The Clintons reportedly were furious at Weiner over his latest admission in his sexting scandal.
