An April downpour could cause flooding in parts of Dublin this week, forecasters have warned.

Heavy rain is expected to hit Dublin, Leinster, and Munster on Wednesday, in what Met Eireann have described as a “very unsettled” week. As much as 20 to 30mm of rain is expected to hit Dublin on Wednesday alone.

"It's looking very ominous for Wednesday with wet and cold and wind with a risk of localized flooding," a forecaster told the Evening Herald.

The most extreme rain is expected in the east and south. Overall the week is promised as very cool and showery. Strong winds will also cause gales at sea.

The lowest temperatures will range from 32-39 degrees Fahrenheit.
