Drunkeness is typical of our Irish social scene. I find it odd that police would contact GAA or CHURCH as both are institutions condoning (inadvertantly promoting)drunkeness, unruly anti-social violent behaviour. It is permitted in Ireland (as GAA/priests generally st the example). Drunkeness id part of our culture. Drunk disorderly dysfunction is part of Irish recession. We grow up thinking drunkeness is a normal way of celebration. Ireland... saints, scholars and SCHIZOPHRENICS (according to nancy schreber-hughes. that's the title of her book. A study of Irish psychology. As an Irishman I'm inclined to agree. We have a high rate of drunkeness, disorderly violence and it is encouraged by GAA/priests and politicians. Canada has started deporting drunken Irish. Austalia should do the same. If I had that threat hanging over me I would not drink! Ireland has a high suicide rate due to drunkeness. We never address the problem as Irish, we bury our heads in the sand. If you want a real insight into Irish alcoholic culture, log on to YOUTUBE and enter THE SAVAGE EYE... drunken Irish. It really does explain what we are all about. I hope you find this helpful. JJ

Tay, you'll find plenty of it on here!
I like cheese
George, you may not realise it but its attitudes like yours towards us Irish that makes a huge number of Irish people hate the language. You go on and on about it as if its some elitist club but if you knew us like you think you do, then you'd realise that we dont do self praise (unless we are politicans) which you do a heck of a lot of. Your attitude is what we describe as 'up your own arse' which irish people hate. There is a phrase Ive heard used here several times in regards the irish language. I have asked people why they arent interested in learning it and besides it being perceived as of no benefit to us, I have been told 'Ah leave that for the Americans, that and the leprechauns, they lap that stuff up', meanwhile here, in the real world we get on with our lives. You are definitely more of a hindrance than a help to the Irish language.
If you reply to them with ''Im Irish'' and they ask ''When did you emigrate?'' and then you say ''Oh I never did, Im American '', it makes me feel even more sorry for you, bless!
Just having a laugh here, it must be hard for you george when someone asks you ''where are you from?'' and you reply with ''America''. Seriously, no one in the entire world outside of the US cares where your great great granny was from except other Americans.
'deirimid'??? Im glad you think youre part of my country, Georgie 'septic tank' mara deirimid sa Bhearla i mo thír. No one is jealous of you George. I dont think there are many who are jealous when someone tells us that they are American.
ancavker: You got the Loony Tunes Seal of Approval! Ciaradexy is impressed that you have a relative who speaks Irish! Of course Ciaralooney is just jealous of me because I speak Irish. But you know what, be it in English, Irish or Hindhi, I'll continue to point out that ciaralooney is an utter fool, an Irish imbecile. Óinseach chruthanta, mara deirimid sa Ghaeilge.
Ancavker, there ARE jobs here but not in what people are studying and want to work in. Why would someone who spent 4 years studying agriculture for example, work in a hotel when they can go abroad and find work in their chosen field? Remember there were 100,000 unemployed irish during the boom when there were jobs by the bucketload here. I have a few unemployed unskilled friends. None of them are out there actively looking for work. Ive told them about jobs that I have seen advertised in windows but they dont want those jobs so far play to migrants for stepping in and doing the work. ''my American born grew up in Ireland wife's Uncle'', wow! Most Irish people are non speakers but fair play to you for giving it a go.
ciara: Some leave for afew years and then come back fine. I have no problem with that. But either there are jobs for the people there or there are not. People cannot be claiming on hand that or there are not enough jobs, and than on the other oh we are just leaving for a few years. On another note my American born grew up in Ireland wife's Uncle will be coming next Tuesday, and they will be chatting away in Irish when they have the opportunity (without being rude to the non-speakers). I will be chiming in when I can with my cupla focal.
sirpeter: Trust me I understand the economic and fiscal policies surrounding the situation in Ireland. (By the way Deutsch Band claims today Ireland will need a second bailout). My point to ciara is simply that the Irish people themselves also bear responsibility for the mess. This attitude that it was only the big bad banks did it to us is nonsense. As far as the civic pride, sorry, I just don't see it in Ireland Even when times were good;just my opinion.
@ancavker.The economic collapse in Ireland, which saw property prices fall through the floor in Ireland, has played into the technology industry’s hands, helping generate a lower cost of living than rival hubs such as London’s Tech City. While tax is important, companies need more than that.Plenty countries give good tax breaks and cheap labour. It’s the TALENT base first and foremost that needs to be at the core. That's what brings high tech companies to Ireland.A good indication is Irish exports are baring up pretty well considering the mess Europe is in.While Irish politicians have to take responsibility for for over spending. The main problem that caused the whole European mess was the interest rates set to suit Germany were to low. It's not easy for small economies to keep in step with big economies. One interest rate to suit all didn't work. It's silly to be talking about civic pride when it comes to economies.Big money doesn't do civic pride.Either do you on a smaller scale.Just have a look at all your possessions and see in what country your civic pride is made.
Ancavker, as you said, ireland has one of the best educated populations in the world. We are all well aware that in a country of this size, there are never going to be enough jobs for everyone coming out with a qualification. You also need to remember the recent article that stated the majority who leave, want to emigrate for a few years. They are not being forced to go. My bro and 2 of my cousins are migrants in NZ and Australia. The three of them love their new homes and are happy to be where they are. They werent forced out. They left good jobs here to travel. Why shouldnt they be allowed to? Other countries allow us in, we allow the citizens of other countries in. Thats life.
