A former Washington Rose of Tralee is to be buried in her beloved Kerry just three years after she wowed the audience at the Kingdom festival.
Dorothy ‘Dott’ Hengeller died after a battle with illness in her Baltimore home last week and is to be buried alongside her sister in Aghadoe cemetery outside Killarney.
Dott represented Washington at the Rose of Tralee International Festival in 2011 when she was 25 years of age. She died just a week short of her 28th birthday.
Her family say she will be brought ‘home’ to her mother’s native Killarney and will be buried alongside her older sister Treasa who died as a toddler on vacation in Kerry three decades ago.
The Irish Independent reports that American born and bred Dorothy was besotted with Killarney which she visited every year.
Older sister Treasa died 30 years ago from meningitis when she was just two and a half while the family was visiting Killarney and the siblings will now be laid to rest together in Aghadoe Cemetery.
In a statement her heartbroken family told the Irish Independent: “Today our beloved Dorothy joined her sister Treasa in heaven.
“She was surrounded by her adoring family at home and passed away peacefully. We are so grateful for the 27 years of joy she brought to us.”
