After missing the official Washington, D.C. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Tuesday because he was in Rome for the papal installation, Vice President Joe Biden will spend Wednesday morning hosting Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny at a breakfast at the vice presidential residence, and Thursday delivering remarks at the Hall of Fame luncheon in New York hosted by Irish Voice sister publication Irish America magazine.

Biden is of Irish descent on his maternal side of the family. His great-grandfather James Finnegan immigrated to the U.S. from Co. Louth in 1850.

“Joe Biden’s story is the story of America,” said Irish America founding publisher Niall O’Dowd. “From humble beginnings and ancestry in Louth to the vice presidency of the United States, it’s an amazing story.”

The 2013 inductees include art collector, entrepreneur and benefactor Brian Burns; businessman and philanthropist Robert M. Devlin; hotelier and humanitarian John Fitzpatrick; and former Congressman Bruce Morrison, an esteemed lawyer, lobbyist and immigration reformer.

A special presentation will be made to former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Jean Kennedy Smith, honoring her diplomatic work on peace in Northern Ireland and her furthering of the Kennedy family’s distinguished legacy of public service. This year marks an important milestone in Kennedy history, as the 50th anniversary of both President Kennedy’s seminal visit to Ireland, on which Kennedy Smith accompanied him, and of his tragic death.

God save Ireland !
@dndvaughn ... the large majority of Catholics are in line with Mr. Biden's positions on both abortion and birth control. And gay unions for that matter. If the new Pope excommunicates him, he might as well excommunicate the vast majority of the rest of us. Heres to hoping our church finally enters the new millenium ...
@dndvaughn, go ahead if you think it would be good PR for Irish Catholics to protest Joe Biden. A protest would make you laughing stocks. It would increase distrust for Irish Catholics throughout America and place the protestors with the lunatic fringe of "birthers" and "God intends pregnancy by rape" and "same-sex marriage will destroy civilization" crowd. Go on, excommunicate Joe because you don't like his politics! We elected Biden to help protect the consciences of our very diverse population, not to become a mouthpiece for the pope and the bishops. Is it not enough for you to have your pope as monarch of a foreign nation? Do you need him to be king of America also?
I think all Irish in the New York City area should 'Protest' this man. He who is supposed to be a god fearing Catholic, yet supports abortion and Government funded birth control. The Pope should have him 'excommunicated' from the Church !
The best VP in least 50 years
it must be real tough on ethnics who only get a mention for their criminal and rip-off traits coupled with having but little to offer to the country's glories.
The comments here must be from the losers who were not invited.
Hoof In Mouth disease spreading to NY ...
It's such a pity the bigots and haters can't deal with the reality of two great men doing their best for all the people. By ignoring the reality that the current abortion laws ("katieherk" or "katiejerk"?) have never killed a single baby (only terminated fetuses which might have become babies) and saved the lives of thousands of women who otherwise would have had to resort to risky illegal "back-room" abortionists (a position 70% of American Catholics agree with), that this administration has restored foreign respect for our nation, achieved the first substantive healthcare reform in half a century (even if it was only a watered down version of the Romney plan rather than the "single payer" system the nation deserves) and essentially rescued an economy destroyed by the "W" administration (the stock market now at all-time highs and unemployment figures at 8 year lows!), they are virtually assuring that the next president will be a Democrat too. REAL Republicans need to stand up to these Tea Party twits and take our party back if we ever want to hold power again! This administration - and Joe Biden should he get the next presidential nomination - MAY be vulnerable at the polls, but not if idiots like these keep trying to hit them with "issues" and lies which LOST massively in the last two presidential elections.
Did he lean over and say to the "This a big F*****g Deal"? What a clown. The man is an insult to Catholics and the people of the United States. Two faced jerk.
I thought Joe Biden was going to try to make St, Patrick Day a National Holiday. Hey Joe what the story.
What an incredible insult to all moral Irish . This Buffoon will be whatever he thinks he needs to be. His insult to all who are practicing Catholics by receiving communion in the Vatican, was an intentional mockery of his supposed faith. To make this story Big News is laughable.
