U.S.travelers will now clear customs/immigration in Dublin

Non-EU citizens should be warned, though, that getting stamps on your VAT purchases carries a long, slow line. This past September, I got to the airport three hours ahead of time and STILL wasn't able to get through the line to get stamps on my paperwork. I had to leave behind over $100 in paid VAT. To be serious, it wasn't exactly all the fault of the people working in those offices. The US Customs and Immigration personnel were slow, slow, slow, slow, slow. Also, after the kindness and wonderful behavior of the Irish Customs and Immigration personnel, the US people were a cold splash of water. As I told my son in front of the exceptionally rude US Customs guy, "Now I know why we're called ugly Americans". If this is the first exposure some of you get to US citizens, I'm so sorry.

Mairin: You are correct that you cleared US Customs. But you didn't clear Immigration till you got to Chicago. Now you'll do both in Dublin, and arrive in Chicago as if you were coming in from Minneapolis or Cincinatti. But you probably won't save much time, because your bags will still be delayed.

I have always cleared US customs in Dublin en route to Chicago.....for many years. Am I missing something?

It is sad to see this US Federal cancer of TSA spreading to Ireland. Today it is for US bound, tomorrow it will be all travelers. Welcome to the NWO!

Other than the US establishing a base in Ireland, there seems to be conflicting views about what the result of this will be. I'm hearing two sides of the illegal immigration thing???
