An Irish-American tourist has captured photos of an apparent apparition of Jesus Christ at the Cliffs of Moher.

Sandra Clifford, a pilot from San Francisco, captured the image on her digital camnrea when she visited the famous Co. Clare tourist attraction on November 4 last.

Clifford (42) and her friend Fiona Fay from Drogheda Co. Louth were spellbound by what they saw and immediately Clifford snapped the shot of what they said appeared to be the face of Jesus Christ. Fay first spotted what appeared to be an image of a man before pointing it out to Clifford.

“To me it was Jesus Christ straight away,” added Clifford, who is a practicing Catholic.

“I am a pilot, so I am always skeptical of what I see, that is why I started grabbing people and asking them what they saw,” Clifford told IrishCentral.

Clifford proceeded to ask a group of German men if they could see the outline, they nodded their heads in agreement, she says, and began taking photos. She also asked a young Asian girl if she could see the outline before she responded, “Oh yeah, that's cool”.

Test“It was amazing,” Clifford added, who was enjoying a two-week vacation in Ireland with her mother when she captured the shot.

“I really wanted to go to the cliffs, I love the ocean.

“I always have my camera and I love taking pictures,” said the American pilot, who took over 800 shots during her trip to Ireland.

It had been raining prior to the sighting and the pilot recalls, “it was a day of rainbows”.

Later that night when she showed the image on her camera to locals in Gus O'Connors Pub in Doolin, they were also in awe.

Teresa O’Flaherty, who owns the bar with her husband Patric, told IrishCentral that they couldn’t believe their eyes.

“I was like, wow, I actually thought it was a picture of a picture, I was shocked,” she said.

“It’s very definitely an image of Christ,” she said.

The image stirred the bar owner’s curiosity so much that she went to the famous cliffs to have a look for herself.

“I actually went there the following day to see if I could see it,” said O’Flaherty.

“They weren’t they kind of people to make it up,” she said, adding, “they didn’t come in to show it to us and they weren’t making a big deal about it”.

“We have five or six bus tours a day coming into the town but I have never seen anything like that.

“I was delighted to have seen it, because if someone had told me, I would have said ‘no way’,” O’Flaherty concluded.

Clifford maintains the images are 100 percent legitimate and points out the original photograph is still in the camera, which she passed around in the Co. Clare pub that evening. When a friend offered to touch up the photograph back in the US she refused, insisting she wanted to maintain its originality.

It's not nearly as recognizable as it was on the tortilla...................
That's one of those guys fron Planet of the Apes.
I don't think if God is making his presence known, it would be a rock formation that looks kinda like his sons face. We've already got Jesus's face in a grilled cheese sandwich that sold on ebay for thousands of dollars. What's with the Caucasian Jesus anyway he was born in the mid-east.
This is one of the many things that gives Catholicism a bad name
We ran this pic under our publisher's enhancement software and it actually looks more like a FEMALE, even with a jeweled brow, painted eyes, etc. Further, there are OTHER faces, smaller, surrounding the main image, much like an icon "hides" faces in clouds etc. (See. Ludmilla Pawloska's work for more on the hidden faces form of art.)
Now, let's just see how many of the ones giving credit for this image of "ME" will actually believe that it's Me leaving a comment here. What?! You think I can carve rocks but I can't use the internet?!?!? BLASPHEMOUS!!!!
I think its pretty neat that she got the picture. I'm sure it was just a coincidence with the light and shadows but who knows what works behind coincidences. For all the church bashers....the Catholic Church does not promote these types of appearances or images. Whatever, leave Ms. Clifford alone. If it inspired her at all, then maybe it was meant to. Either way, it was a cool picture!
There ARE pictures of Jesus Christ! When I was in the States in the mid-1960's, The later-to-be-famous radio personalty, "Wolfman Jack" (made famous in the movie "American Graffiti") was broadcasting out of Del Rio, Texas. In between spinning records, he was selling "autographed pictures of Jesus Christ!" Knowing that I had to have such a rare document to show ye others of little faith,I enthusiastically sent him my money. For unknown reasons, the picture didn't get to me before I returned home six months later, so I guess someone else has had it in their archives for all these years? If I had it, I'd gladly share it with Ms. Clifford to verify her equally rare documentation of the holy visage.
There are no pictures of Jesus that we know of, the ones we generally use are just an artists rendition. Granted, there may have been what appeared to be a face on the cliff walls, but who says it was "Jesus", just enjoy the pic and stop tagging "jesus" on it.
Dear All, Instead of bashing, I wish you'd use your gorgeous brains and locate the other tourist/visitors that were at the Cliffs Friday Nov 4, some time after 4pm. I too would like to see their photos and hear from them. Smiles, Sandra
I wonder what she's smoking? But should she be allowed to fly planes?
Why would a real image of Jesus conform to a notion of a white European when Jesus would have had Semitic features? In a related story an Atheist recently made a slice of toast and there was no image of anybody on it.
How about a little respect for Christianity? Less and less am I proud of my Irish heritage after reading you morons with your smart ass comments shame on you!!! Amazing what a decade of greed, drugs and immigrants will do to a once proud culture.
After a few pints of Irish Ale i can hear me Wife say as i sneek in the Back Door Jesus Christ where have you Been at this late hour. I always say to her IT'S meself John not Jesus. Mary Kate likes to sip a few Shots of Irish Mist. she says it warms the cockels of her heart on damp nights.
Of course, it could just as easily be Bjorn Borg.
