U.S. ambassador Dan Rooney admits he sneaks out to lunch in Ireland

'I'm a prisoner of the Phoenix Park,' says Steelers owner

America's new-ish ambassador to Ireland, Dan Rooney, says he feels like "a prisoner of the Phoenix Park."

Rooney, who is the owner and chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers, says the security with his new post has taken a lot of getting used to.

"I'm not allowed to drive," he said.

He also revealed that sometimes he just sneaks out to lunch.

Phoenix Park is home to the residence of the American Ambassador along with the headquarters of Ireland's national police force, so it's safe to say that Rooney's lunchtime jaunts are probably on police radar!

Rooney, who invented the "Rooney Rule," which requires NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for management posts, is also the co-founder of the The Ireland Funds (the other being embattled newspaper magnate Anthony O'Reilly).
