Toddler spent days alone after mother died of natural causes - social service are now searching for family to care for the child
Oregon police found a hungry and thirsty two-year-old boy on Wednesday in his Portland home. The toddler had survived for two days alone after his mother, 40-year-old Micaela Quinn, died suddenly of natural causes.
Sergeant Pete Simpson told the Republican that Quinn’s friend had contacted the police as she hadn’t seen her friend in a number of days. The police visited their house to check on their welfare on Wednesday morning at 8.30am.
A neighbor, Amber Sawney, told Fox news she was “devastated”. She said, “You know, if anything happened to me I'd feel the same way for him. A little boy by himself, no mom, nobody to take care of him. It's sad."
Police say the little boy is in good health but was taken to the hospital for a check up. The Department of Human services will try to find relatives to care for the child.
Simpson told the Oregonian, “It's truly heartbreaking… ‘We can only assume what this poor kid was thinking about the past couple of days. Fortunately, the little guy is OK.”
He added, “It's a good reminder that people need to look out for each other.”
