Tragic 12-year-old Irish girl sought help from center before death
Local parish priest describes the suicide tragedy as ‘overwhelming’
Hundreds of mourners turned out on Wednesday to pay their respects to 12-year-old Lara Burns, who took her own life last Saturday.
A first year student at Maynooth Post Primary School, Burns was buried in her hometown of Maynooth in Co. Kildare, following a Requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday.
Police are following a line of inquiry that the student was the victim of cyber bullies in the months before her death.

A source told the Irish Sun newspaper: “Allegations of bullying have been made and officers have to thoroughly investigate these claims.”
The local parish priest in Kilcock, Fr PJ Byrne, said, "the upset was overwhelming".
"We are just snowed under with sadness, with loss and with mystery," he told the Irish Examiner.
According to the Star newspaper, the secondary school student had been receiving help from suicide and self-harm crisis centre Pieta House.
“This is a hugely upsetting and distressing time for Lara’s family and they are very grateful to all her friends and to the Pieta House group for all their support,” a source close to the family told the newspaper.
“There are issues far more complex than may have initially been made out and Lara’s family just need time to grieve and come to terms with their loss now.”
In lieu of funeral flowers, the family asked mourners to donate to Pieta House.
Burns was the third young female to commit suicide in Ireland in the past two months. In October Erin Gallagher (13) from Donegal took her own life being harassed by cyber-bullies on the Ask.fm website. Ciara Pugsley (15) from Leitrim took her life in September having been the victim of bullies also.
