Why did Mitt Romeny lose so badly in the end. We list the top ten reasons why The Mittster never made it off first base, despite his fans thinking he would hit a home run.
1. True -- Donald Trump made robo calls for him and appeared with him in person-- that’s the equivalent of appearing with Groucho Marx and being asked to be taken seriously.
2. True ---Even Mormons did not vote for him. 80 per cent voted for George Bush in 2000 only 78 per cent voted for Mitt.
3. True- He boasted about his car elevator in his house in California-- that was sure to go down well with the unemployed blue collars he was seeking.
4. True--He barely contested the three states he lives in--Detroit where he was born, Massachusetts where he governed and California where he is now going to live.
5. True--He listened to Karl Rove the demented humpty dumpty. Karl is so augties -- he has not had a decent run since Bush sneaked Florida in 2000.
6. True--he thought big crowds meant that was ahead. People always show up the last week of a presidential campaign.
7. True--He dissed Big Bird and lost the kid’s vote and annoyed their mums.
8.True---Peggy Noonan said she knew he’d win when she saw more yard signs for him in Northern Virginia -- sad that.
9. True---Paul Ryan ran clear off the screen for the last two weeks of the campaign.
10. True --he based his campaign in Boston, also the home site of those big winners Mike Dukakis and John Kerry. When will they learn-- Massachussetts pols don’t win the presidency -- unless you’re Jack Kennedy and Mitt - you’re no Jack Kennedy.
BONUS!
This just in from The Boston Globe:
“Mitt Romney’s voter-turnout operation suffered a meltdown on Election Day, resulting in a crucial 90-minute “buckling” of the program in Boston and the inability of some campaign workers across the country to access a vital smartphone application, according to campaign officials and volunteers.”

The biggest reason for Mitt's loss was VOTER FRAUD!
pbrower2a | Dec 16, 2012, 02:36 PM EST
Mitt Romney lost largely because Barack Obama is an above-average President. Had a conservative Republican achieved what Barack Obama did -- and Barack Obama isn't particularly liberal -- he would have won a landslide. Putting an end to the most dangerous economic meltdown since the 1930s without a speculative boom, getting the US out of one pointless war and easing out of another, whacking the most dangerous terrorist ever... that must be good for something.
jethromayham5 | Dec 15, 2012, 08:51 PM EST
Mitt lost women and men by supporting the stupid ass that said God supported keeping babies created from rape. He is so crazy on that one issue and it nail him as a loser automatically by both voters with an ounce of larality.
Eschetic | Nov 20, 2012, 01:42 PM EST
Bottom line: Mitt lost because he ran a right wing campaign in a country which is MODERATE at worst, and he ran against the best, most effective MODERATE President since Eisenhower. Thousands of white middle class Republicans like me voted across party lines for that very important but under-reported reason.
StevieJoe | Nov 19, 2012, 11:24 PM EST
He lost because he took 55% of all the voters, namely women, and threatened them with "vaginal probes" loss of birth control, repeal of roe v. Wade, and no equal pay for equal work. It did not help to ignore 50 million legal Mexicans, 35 million blacks, and 30 million assorted citizens with skin color darker than his, a full 30% of the population.
SheilaSB | Nov 19, 2012, 03:55 PM EST
I agree wholeheartedly with Markday, who expressed everything very well.
JimmieM | Nov 18, 2012, 11:00 AM EST
Mitt lost because the democrats are on the attack 24-7 telling lies, damnable lies, about any and all republicans. They lies are damnable because in the long run a lot of people are going to die because of them....republicans are Not racist, Not woman haters, as the democrats paint them...the republicans for their part think the democrats are their good and dear friends?.....

Agree with seanmor; those that think Obama's so great---check back in 4 years and see where we stand!
eiriamach | Nov 13, 2012, 07:58 PM EST
Yes, I agree, seano. Obama appeals to moderates for the same reasons he frustrates progressives. When I needed to understand why he didn't move faster on progressive causes, I read some Reinhold Niebuhr, his favorite philosopher/ historian/ theologian. Now I think I understand Obama better (but I'm still a pushy progressive).
seanomelb | Nov 13, 2012, 05:55 PM EST
It may be more prudent to say a majority of moderates supported Obama.
eiriamach | Nov 13, 2012, 02:45 PM EST
Like DaveKelly, I also think EphraimKibbey's right, except when he says, "a large portion of the Independents" voted for Obama. Only 45 percent of Independent voters supported Obama. This outcome flips the 2008 result, when only 44 percent of them voted for Republican McCain. Independents helped Obama win in 2008, but not much in this election, and they're 24% of voters. I'm not sure why, but probably Obama lost ground with them because they are mostly white male economics voters. Why did Romney lose? Although 51 percent of voters agree with the GOP that government is too 'big,' 55 percent agree with Dems that the economic system favors the wealthy. Consider how many are struggling financially, and, as Ephraim says, do the arithmetic. (My data are from Pew Research.)
eiriamach | Nov 13, 2012, 02:05 PM EST
O'Brien ignores the biggest reason-- Romney miscalculated 'what women want.' Telling us all we care about is money, he and his wife tried to re-create us in their own image. Women cast 53 percent of the votes, and 55 percent supported Obama. Women gave Obama an 11-point margin to overcome the 7-point margin that men gave Romney over Obama. Women voters gave Obama crucial margins of victory in Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. Two sets of perceptions competed at the polls: (1) that government has grown too 'big' and (2) that there is too much unfairness in the system, too much power in the hands of too few, who use it against women, minorities, the poor. The second perception won out because it takes government action to re-balance power and protect fairness for everyone. If the GOP cooperates in re-balancing and stops threatening women's rights, they might remain a viable party. If not, they're gone by 2016.

Having a nasty day Tom Mo!! don't worry it will pass with the ravages of time and the demise of the teaparty.
Scrivner | Nov 12, 2012, 04:00 PM EST
The Obama campaign exploited a version of the "battered wife syndrome." Where the victim (in this case the American working & middle classes) having suffered consistant abuse (black and hispanic unemployment at all time highs, persistant high fuel prices, etc.) are given the choice of a seemingly cold rescuer or return to their abuser who is promising that it will be "better" next time and, besides, it's really the victim's own fault. As in many dojestic abuse cases, the victim goes back to the familiar rather than take a chance on breaking free.
markday | Nov 12, 2012, 03:28 PM EST
None of the above (Trump, Rove, car elevators or Big Bird) were the real reason why Romney lost. The majority of Americans couldn't relate to his flaunting his riches, five trillion dollars of tax cuts to the rich, his party's homophobia, and theier disdain for people of color. The ground literally moved beneath them and they didn't know what hit them. Also, they made fun of Obama for being a mere "community organizer." Well he and his troops knew how to organize a highly efficient machine. Their polls told the truth and the Repubs only paid attention to the ones that flattered them. The Repubs thourhg they could win with the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelsohn's money. How wrong they were. It's going to take a long time for the GOP to regain its balance. And immigration reform will also help the Irish. Don't forget, there was a time when they we considered white. Most Irish Americans have forgotten that if hyou judge by some of posts on this site. Meanwhile, Sean O'Brien, brush up on you reading and analysis. Boy, were you off the mark.

Hollabackgurl. And another thing. By Modern American politics, do you mean Chicago stuff? Like they are pulling right now. Benghazi cover up, Clinton, Petraeus, Fast and Furious,Unemployment figures, Cutting off Oil and Gas drilling; massive layoffs "after" the election, huge tax increases "after" the election; increases in medicare costs "after" the election. Fu*k you and modern american politics. You are a nonothing.

Hey, look on the bright side, we'll have President Pantload around for (maybe) four more years to make fun of if, he doesn't get impeached for "fast and furious" or this embassey thing that's getting worse by the day. We shouldn't neglect our Veterans though, you don't want to "anger" those people! And there's plenty of them out of work who we could deputize and put to work tracking down Illegal Aliens for deportation. It's odd that, there's about 10 million people in this country who want illegals to stay but 305 million who want them out and any pol who sides with them. Whatever happened to "Majority Rules" in this country? Obama is barking up the wrong tree, he and everyone in Washington should surely realize that all it takes is one small spark to ignite a giant conflagration. Perhaps a senator's son or daughter killed by a drunken driver illegal alien. What then with 600 million guns in this country? It's not right and it's not worth it. Since when did enforcing our laws especially our immigration laws become,...optional? We used to be "A Country of Laws" when we lose that we've lost everything. What about rapists and murderers? Shouldn't (they) get an "amnesty" too? We are a mature country, we don't need any more immigration especially from third world countries and unskilled people who can't read or write in their own languages. There are no shortages of high school dropouts and recent college grads to do menial labor. We simply do not need anymore people going on (our) public assistance programs. Yes, we do need (some) immigration but only for highly skilled people like M.D.s, Nurses, Engineers etc. Some people must think we're still in the 1800's when we had millions of job openings. We're not. We're going to be lucky if we don't have a depression in this country. If it happens it'll happen real fast and no-one will be able to stop it.
hollabackgurl | Nov 11, 2012, 10:14 PM EST
Tom Mo could you please stop commenting on modern American politics until you actually understand them? It would be such a relief to the people who accidentally see your posts. Thanks.
Tom Mo | Nov 11, 2012, 08:57 PM EST
What gets my goat is that all you obamaroids only concentrate on womens rights (nonsence),Planned parenthood,Gay marriage, social welfare (we have it) contraception (It's there, go get it) food stamps(available to all who need them, but don't pull up in a fu*kin Mercedes to shop). Romney is a proof positive business man with a proven recors. The Home Depot, Domino Pizza, Staples, through Bain Capital employ and train thousands of young people. But you fu*kin morons rejected him because he was white, and a morman. One day you will regret this. obama has spent your money by the billions in so called green energy, all bancrupt. He will spend more of your money. He will destroy the Military, the Coal industry, the Banking institutions, the education system, which is already ruined, judging from the voting turnout, the construction industry, and the auto industry. He will stifle production and innovation. He is a communist bent on "fundamentally changing the American way of life". Wake up for Chrissake.
DaveKelly59 | Nov 11, 2012, 08:51 PM EST
Mr. Kibbey, who posted just before myself is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT -ON, I could not agree more. I must add this however, Mutt Romney , the GOP and others of their ilk, thought they had a sure -thing , bought and paid for, much the same as in 2000. Yes, these folks paid for this election, big money such as this does not spend the sums they put-out on possibilities or chance. They do not do that, they had things set-up to " game " this election, make no mistake about it, these people are criminals, Absolutely, but they LOST, and in a very big way, like you have no idea, in a big way. The American People and the People of this world and thank their God and the United States Intelligence Community for this most fair election! THANK YOU!
EphraimKibbey | Nov 11, 2012, 07:20 PM EST
The number one reason that Mittens lost was that good people stood up and told the Nation how bad a candidate he was and how bad the policies of the new republican party are. Many times it was done with the help of the GOP candidates themselves. With their cloak of superiority removed, they were seen for the shallow, misinformed, bigots that they are. Those who were surprised at the results were either not paying attention to the rest of the world or were part of ever right moving GOP. The further right you go, the fewer people there are to agree with you and the smaller your party becomes - DUH! Smaller party equals fewer votes - sorry, I know arithmetic is HARD. I would venture that a large portion of the Independents who voted for the very moderate President Obama were at one time moderate Republicans driven out of the party either by the Cheney/Bush fiasco or the Tea Party litmus tests of true conservatism. If you tell everyone else that they are not good enough, pretty soon you turn around and you are all alone.

seanomelb | Nov 11, 2012, 05:31 PM EST
Seanmor and phlutie I know it's a bitter pill to swallow, you lost,so quit the Foxspeak it's over. Even your little tin God Hannity is now siding with the president on immigration reform. It has taken the dunces in the GOP a generation to understand the power of the latino and Black vote. It will take them a generation to make meaningful inroads. But you will have to do better than blusters like Hermann or thugs like Alan West.
Proud Canadian2 | Nov 11, 2012, 04:23 PM EST
What a great true account for Mitt the Twitts demise. I would have added one more to the list--true he put down and dissed the minorities terrible mistake. Good on you Mitt, a true Christian learns humility, try it sometime.
J.D.McCaffrey | Nov 11, 2012, 03:28 PM EST
Sorry PhlutiePhan, you and all your fellow tea bagsters mumbling your discontent on the way to vote weren't quiet enough. You and Rush and Karl (turd blossom) Rove are increasingly isolated as the new generation sees the errors in your ways before you do, while you're blinded by El Rushbo and his ilk. Even is Mitt didn't have such a reputation as an incorrigible liar, his message was for a different generation and a different demographic (perhaps the 1% Maybe?) The Republicans spent too much time listening to their own pep talks and not enough trying to find out what Americans want and need. Obama isn't perfect, but he's a hell of a lot better than that ridiculous lying clown Mittens Romney. Paul Ryan? Laughable with his warmed over Ayn Rand philosophy, the ultimate of irrelevance.
cillowen | Nov 11, 2012, 02:46 PM EST
the browns won and will be doings so for years into the future. whitey are too racist to think. Repugs divide and conquor like that which mother england practiced with major success across the globe doesn't work for them. Its Over. Big Government works well for the oligarchs that's the reason they spent billions to con/influence the sheep with that ying yang charade. Never see a sheep positioned as ambassadors and as advisors to the mighty. What we get is the socialist line of the rest of us as being commies who are fat and lazy looking for a handout. Real fat and lazy are at the top of the pyramid having the benefit of getting labor on the cheap as they pugg on their cigars, tennis anyone, golf perhaps lets see rory, in australia, whereever and so goes the power of government in service to our masters.
Seanmor | Nov 11, 2012, 02:29 PM EST
Romney's defeat is a great victory for those who want big government, reditribution of the nation's wealth, continued national deficits, restrictions on religiouds freedoms, especially for Christians, the redefining of marriage, the rewarding of illegl aliens for violating U.S. laws, the ignorin of the needs of for veterans, including the 200,000 who who honorably served and are now homeless. Would the Founding Fathers who gave us our great Constitution have preferred Obama's polities to those of Romney?
Eschetic | Nov 11, 2012, 01:52 PM EST
The *biggest* reason you only touch on in your #5: he turned his entire campaign over to the extreme right wing of the party - that agenda hasn't won a *legitimate* presidential election since 1988. For MOST of the 156 year history of the Republican Party we have NOT been the party of Conservatism ("Mr. Conservative," senator Robert Taft couldn't even get NOMINATED in the 50's McCarthyism years!). We RINOs (not "Republicans In Name Only" but "Republicans INSISTING on Newer Options") should stand up and take our party back now that the Right Wingers have been so soundly thrashed two elections in a row!

PhlutiePhan what a crock of crap. Listening to Rush is like listening to Hitler spouting his messages to the German people. What did he spout? Lies, fear and hate. Your rhetoric is the same as his was proving that the repulsive party of NO (republicans) is now the nazi/fascist party of NO (republicans)

PhlutiePhan | Nov 11, 2012, 11:59 AM EST
@StevieVirginia: Since you were probably drunk before you voted (You may not have even voted), you only prove my point of the young not having a clue. Since it is all about "Sex and Violence", maybe if Romney beat his wife and had multiple affairs like Teddy, then you undoubtedly would have voted different. How about all those dead white guys laying under crosses in Normandy who allowed your drunk begunia to slander the republic? Romney was no "barrell of chuckles" but the alternative is a Marxist Muslim sympathizer. It all about world socialism and the destruction of the "opiate of the people". Fifty million babies have now been aborted and it could very easily have been you.
PhlutiePhan | Nov 11, 2012, 11:53 AM EST
The telling statistic related by Rush was the fact that the under 30 crowd voted against Mittens by 5 million. The young will get younger and the old will die. We have a young generation of sex addicted, drug addicted, atheist addicted, personal fulfillment (Ask Not What Your Country Dan Do for You) addicted profligates who now control the destiny of this once great republic. "Sex and violence" is the religion of choice and television is the site of those who worship the devil.
rose528 | Nov 11, 2012, 11:53 AM EST
JimmieM the #1 reason is that there are not too many Democrats it's because you don't have to be a Democrat to vote for the President and the results are President Obama won. The nazi/fascist party of NO (republicans) are racist, bigots and spew hate, fear and lies, another reason why they lost. Stop watching faux (fake for you who don;t know french) "news" if you want the truth
jimgordo1 | Nov 11, 2012, 11:33 AM EST
LisaJHD -- Where are you getting your statistics. Fox News or the Tea Party? I see where the Tea Party is so upset at Obama's win that they're suing for a recount in FL. I just hope that if they do get a recount that it will put the final nail in the Tea Party's coffin!
rose528 | Nov 11, 2012, 11:29 AM EST
Tom MO the reason flip/flop Willard lost is there are more educated informed American people who voted. For your information the red states you see in the middle of the country on a map receive more "free stuff" and welfare than the all the blue states.Do your research if you want the truth stop watching faux (that means fake if you don't read french) "news"
StevieVirginia | Nov 11, 2012, 11:24 AM EST
In my house we call it Faux News and it was fun watching Faux News after the election ended. I kept waiting for but it never happened. I was waiting for exploding heads. These jack asses said Romney would win in a rout! The people at Faux News are all in denial. They are sooo stupid. They still don't know why they lost. These idiots said any Christian who votes for Obama would go to hell! This Catholic kid voted for Obama and just in case I am going to hell? I went to the liquor store, stocked up and partied all night long after Obama won. The #1 reason why Romney lost was because the dying breed of the "Angry White Man" the racist - bigot was way out numbered.
rose528 | Nov 11, 2012, 11:07 AM EST
the repugs responding here still blame every thing and every one but their party. The repulsive party of NO is a nazi/fascist party. You can tell by the statements people running for a seat in the House or Senate, for Governor or by someone who was already in office. The laws the they past in their states against women, union, teacher, and workers. These are the real reasons the nazi/fascist party lost
eiregirl | Nov 11, 2012, 11:06 AM EST
The Republicans lost because the time for the Grand Old Party is over. Their ideology is archaic. Their refusal to give a toss what the rest of the world thinks of us is disturbing but then they wonder why the US can be disliked in many parts of the world. We have actually moved FORWARD. JimmieM...sorry to burst your bubble (which might be very large) Abraham Lincoln, that name might be familiar to you was the first Republican president and it was he who freed the slaves not the Democrats.
LisaJHD | Nov 11, 2012, 11:01 AM EST
Look at the information coming out about vote totals. Some precincts and/or counties have more than 100% voter turnout. St. Lucia County in Florida had 141% turnout! Some precincts have 100% (or more) voting for Obama-Biden ticket. There has been massive fraud in this election.
maryosullivan | Nov 11, 2012, 10:30 AM EST
Republicans will continue to lose if they don't publicly disassociate themselves from the Fox News inspired rant employed by Tom Mo shown below The endless screed against everything Obama said or did would propel even an Obama critic to vote against Romney. The incivility, the raw racist remarks flung at anyone , including Christie, who uttered a word of agreement with Obama's policies has been nonstop for the last four years. Perhaps McConnell's comment saying the Republicans number one priority was to make Obama a one time President set the pace If you guess I voted for Obama , think again
wheelah | Nov 11, 2012, 10:29 AM EST
The reason Mitt Romney lost is because he is Mitt Romney: an aloof, secretive, money man with a palpable superiority complex. With no core convictions aside from money and ambition, Romney was astonishingly adept at pushing any lie he believed his audience wanted to hear. He relied too heavily on playing on the fears and insecurities of a shrinking base of support. That loose association with the truth and willingness his to allow policy (to the extent that he spoke in specifics) dictate the facts proved his undoing. The Romney team tweaked their own polling data to suit their narrative and couldn't see the coming landslide. They choose to believe the clumsy and obvious voter suppression efforts of Ohio & Florida would not energize Obama's base. At the end of the day, Romney earned fewer votes than John McCain did in his thrashing. I'm from Massachusetts, and know of Mitt Romney more than I care to.
Parents | Nov 11, 2012, 10:26 AM EST
The Reps did everything to make Pres Obama look like he was doing nothing, then compaign on it, in order to made the election for them a walk in the park. They did this over and obove "the good of the country". People caught on to this and there was a backlash to this behaviour. They showed disrespect for the Office and the President. Not acceptable.
cantwaittogo | Nov 11, 2012, 10:25 AM EST
11. 1920's stance on birth control and abortion. 12. Once Mittens realized that the pup he brought on board (Paul Ryan) was actually a rabid pit bull, he became afraid. Who would want to be President if Paul Ryan was one heartbeat away, and it was YOUR heartbeat that Ryan was eyeing?
joma5004 | Nov 11, 2012, 10:08 AM EST
JimmieM, learn to use coherent sentences instead of the babbLe in your comment! Mittiens lost because way too many people realized that he was nothing but an empty suit, talking the talk but NOT walking the walk. I know. I live in Massachusetts and have experience with Mittens.
Tom Mo | Nov 11, 2012, 10:00 AM EST
The reason Romney lost is that there are more ill informed morons in America than Americans. Far too many voters like to get "free stuff".
JimmieM | Nov 11, 2012, 09:19 AM EST
The number 1 reason is that there are to many democrats in respected advisory Colin Powel is only the most public one...they tell the republicans to never respond to the slander the democrats spew like that the republicans are the racist party while the democrats freed the slaves....a lie, that now many people believe.
