Titanic exhibit to promote Northern Ireland in New York City

Titanic enthusiasts -- and thanks to the Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet movie of the same name there are now millions of them -- are in for a very special treat next week when New York’s Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall will be the site of a major exhibition about the ill-fated ship, which was built in Belfast.

The exhibition, titled “Experience Northern Ireland, Titanic and More,” is being presented by Tourism Ireland in association with its partners the National Museums Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau and Continental Airlines.

Featured alongside an array of materials promoting Northern Ireland will be an exhibit on Maritime Belfast and an interactive exposition built around a replica of the hull of its most famous masterwork, the Titanic. It’s an opportunity for Titanic enthusiasts to get closer than ever before to the now legendary ship.

From September 24 to the 29, alongside the Titanic exhibit, New York’s magnificent Vanderbilt Hall will be filled with the sounds, tastes and images of Northern Ireland in a special campaign to promote the region and its history.

To help get the message out about Northern Ireland’s resurgent culture and history, participants from the worlds of theater, music and dance will help to transport each visitor across the Atlantic to Northern Ireland.

Highlighted in this groundbreaking promotion will be a packed schedule of events featuring not-to-be-missed culinary delights from celebrity chefs like Noel McMeel and Neven Maguire. Visitors to the interactive exhibit at Vanderbilt Hall will be able to take their own virtual journey around Northern Ireland and explore the delights of the Causeway Coast, the walled city of Derry, or follow in the footsteps of Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, and enjoy the tranquility of the Mourne mountains and Fermanagh Lakelands.

In a statement Joe Byrne, executive vice president in the U.S. for Tourism Ireland said, “We believe strongly once visitors experience the sights and sounds of Northern Ireland in Grand Central terminal, they will want to make travel plans to visit. Northern Ireland is easy to get to with daily flights from New York to Belfast, it offers an excellent vacation experience and is home to some of the world’s top golf links.
