An outdoor four day concert to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic will take place in Cork next April.

One of the highlights of the year long memorial, the concert will feature music by Riverdance composer Bill Whelan and will be streamed globally.

On April 11, the Navy will perform a fleet review and the Air Corps will partake in a fly-past at Cobh, the ship’s last port of call.

Project director Marc Anderson said, "Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 and our event partners welcome one and all to be part of the many wonderful experiences that will pay tribute to the Titanic and the people associated with her in Cobh, Cork City, and Cork Harbour throughout 2012 and beyond.

@roibaird.There is evidence that the rivets used to hold the metal plates had to much slag in them. They were of poor quality. They did tests on some of the rivets brought to the surface.
Commemoration may be questionable, however the awareness and change that happened after this disaster to this point made sure that another tragedy of this magnitude would hopefully never happen again. Radio telegraphy procedures, watch standing of radio officers, Auto alarms that would wake all radio officers(twelve 4second dashes with a 1 second interval)all over the ocean, International ice patrols by Canadian and America forces plotting bergs. Changes in watertight compartment construction, and putting more decision making in the hands of ship operating personel rather than shoreside! There are some great photos by the joint French /American team that found the Titantic while working from their ship the R/V Knorr .
IrelandNorth Where was the evidence published that "bad metal" was used on the Titanic?
Has Cobh Urban District Council (UDC) provided for flood damage insurance in the event of an uncharacteristic Corkonian Tsunami. Will they be drinking Scotch on the rocks. Or will they be rearranging the d[o]ckchairs in the harbour. Will they be playing T[eu]t[o]nic music, etc.
The only commemoration should be for the investigation and prosecution of the shipyard for using bad metal. Why commemorate an event that killed all of its 3rd class passengers (Irish) because they weren't let out or provided lifeboats?
