Hi again,I am out on a limb here but airliners and training aircraft are designed to recover from a stall in that their noses lower and regain speed as long as the pilot doesen't do sometinng stupid.their is a saftey margin built into their wing design.I think that the coffin corner applies to delta wing aircraft ie jets and military planes. The sensors iced up due to shock cooling on one side of the aircraft (a phenomenon that occurs close to thunderstorms in that the moisture freezes on contact with a hard cold surface)giving confusing readings to the flight managment system and pilots .Had the pilots done nothing only making sure wings were level the aircraft would have stablised itself as its auto pilot had disengaged.
This is truly tragic but after listening to an aircraft investigator on the radio commenting on that accident.if the pilots had done nothing the plane would have righted itself as all commercial airliners are designed to do, but the pilots seemed to have accelerated a stall, this is down to in adequate training in these high-tech fly by wire aircraft.Totally sad.
Aisling is from my home town of Roscrea in Tipperary. I was listening to the local radio Tipp FM on my computer at work on friday (here in DC) and her dad said that they are now considering take a civil claim against Air France. I'm sure they wont be the only ones. The results of this report are going to cost Air France for sure. It wont bring back those who were lost but might result in better training of Pilots on how to handle a plane when the auto pilot isnt working. The Washington Post recently had an article that said 80% of international flights are on auto pilot for most of the flight - kinda makes you nervous!!!
