I think it's a new version of, to divide and conquer, woundedknee. Stay in the moment...it's the only way to keep one's perspective in all of this!
Yeah, exactly, WoundedKnee. The Eastern Europeans will work twice as hard for half the wages. Indeed, there are probably people somewhere on the planet who will work twice as hard for half the money of the East Europeans (4X as hard as the Irish). They probably all have PhD's in Nuclear Physics as well from their home countries, so the Aussies will have no worries there about their new $2 an hour employees not being able to hold an intelligent conversation with the paying guests. Although if they keep giving away Aussie jobs to foreigners, there won't be any Aussies with a paid job to afford these hospitality facilities.
Ireland is full of Eastern European workers (apart from the welfare sharks). Why don't the Australians go direct to Poland and do their recruiting there? I've been unlucky enough to have dealings with lots of Polish "hospitality workers" in Ireland and I'd love to send them to Australia. Or Antartica, if possible. With of course occasional exceptions, the Eastern European hotel and restaurant employees in Ireland don't have the slightest wit, humor, personality or sense of the country and culture they are operating in. So here is the craziness of the way Ireland is governed: Irish hotels are full of foreign migrant workers, yet the Irish are going to flock to Australia to work. In hotels...
