Organizers have predicted that thousands of people from across the island will attend Saturday’s ‘March for Choice’ in Dublin.

Pro-choice activists are expected to descend on the nation’s capital calling for the decriminalisation of abortion. The event will coincide with the Global Day of Action for Access to Safe and Legal Abortion.

A Government appointed expert group is expected to deliver its report to the Minister for Health next month, in which it will provide options for future legislation.

Over 1,500 have signed up to attend on the events Facebook page which states: “This is a celebration of being pro-choice! A day of being pro-choice and proud, speaking up and speaking out, making our voices heard. Come and celebrate with us!”

Speaking to the Irish Times, People Before Profit TD Joan Collin said it was ‘intolerable’ that Ireland was one of the last countries in Europe to legalize abortion.

“There have been two referendums in which the majority of the population expressed support for the right to abortion when the life of the woman is at risk," she said.

When will Irish Central stop its stupid boosterism for causes like this? Kelly's article blatantly tries to inflate the figures for this demonstration. Yet the news report of the Irish Times, which could be fairly described as a pro-abortion newspaper, headlines "Low turnout for pro-choice rally". It would be interesting to know how many of the few hundred people who showed up are actually not Irish, but foreign migrants and settlers in Ireland. Certainly one such settler had the nerve to take a case against Ireland to the European Court--never seemed to occur to this Latvian or whatever she is that if she wants an abortion there are flights from Dublin to Latvia every day.
The demo passed off, with 500 marchers estimated by Gardai. Oh dear!
Why aren't these protesters having a counter demonstration to the anti-American one held by the muslims of Ireland.I bet none of them are marching in a pro abortion march. How do you think the muslims react when you have a protest asking for the right to kill Irish babies?
