On Tuesday, the Election night became the most tweeted about event in U.S. political history.
There were more than 31 million election-related tweets on Tuesday night, according to Twitter spokeswoman Rachael Horwitz.
"Twitter brought people closer to almost every aspect of the election this year," Horwitz said.
"From breaking news, to sharing the experience of watching the debates, to interacting directly with the candidates, Twitter became a kind of nationwide caucus."
In the moment following Obama’s win there was a frenzy, with a peak of 327,000 tweets a minute. Here’s a selection of tweets from some of the most popular celebrities on Twitter after Obama’s victory was announced.

breandan | Nov 09, 2012, 05:21 PM EST
"On Tuesday, the Election night became the most tweeted about event in U.S. political history." I don't understand why people didn't tweet more about John Adams barely winning against Thomas Jefferson or FDR winning a fourth term. It MUST be because the last election was the most important event EVER! yeah, that's it.

pilib04 - You are right. I wondered at the complacecy of the moderators who took the Ohio news seemingly in stride as Carl fumed. I also noted that Fox was first to call several of the states for Obama. It was an interesting night all around.
pilib04 | Nov 09, 2012, 01:01 PM EST
Marxist people of America? Whoa, get that dogger on some meds. The Democrats aren't even comparable to new Labour, let alone Marxist.
pilib04 | Nov 09, 2012, 12:56 PM EST
EphraimKibbey, I ended up watching the Fox network (we don't have cable) over NBC,CBS,ABC. Fox was a little ahead of the other three in terms of electoral vote and the popular vote. When they would let Rove babble on, I just switched to NBC. Fox was surprisingly good except for rove.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 09, 2012, 01:16 AM EST
Eschetic - You forgot to tell them about the "Dixiecrats!" Otherwise you gave a great history lesson. Sadly today's right does not seem to believe in facts anymore. Thanks for the Megan McCain story. Now there is a REAL Republican. If she ran for something, I might be tempted back into the GOP. If Megan can't get the GOP back for the moderate (sane) republicans maybe she can start a centrist party. It should get a big membership as that is were the REAL majority of Americans lie. I still can't get over the wingnuts ousting Dick Lugar next door in Indiana. He was a sure thing for the GOP and they just tossed him aside. Heaven Forbid that a Republican politician might have a thought that did not tow the party line. Wait, isn't that what we said of the Politbureau in the USSR. Maybe we should start refering to GOP Politicians as Comrade Representative and Comrade Senator.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 09, 2012, 12:56 AM EST
seanomelb - I am forever in your debt! If I had not watched FOX Tuesday night as you said you were going to do, I would have missed Carl's face when Ohio was called and the journey in search of the "traitors" in the back room.
Eschetic | Nov 08, 2012, 09:37 PM EST
Rather sad that you didn't mention Megan McCain (John McCain's daughter and somewhat smarter than her father) who had a wonderful quote in today's papers to the effect that "you'd better stop calling us 'RINOS' [Republicans In Name Only] if you ever want to win another election!" I think we ought to ADOPT the acronym (only as Republicans INSISTING on Newer Options) and tell RINOs to "STAND UP and TAKE BACK our party!" Maybe with bumper stickers showing a rhinoceros proudly standing on a sea of used tea bags? I mean, let's face it, the conservative agenda hasn't *legitimately* won a presidential election since 1988 (and even THEN, had all the voters known Bush Sr. was going to stick by Reagan's unalloyed agenda as opposed to at least SOME of the one he campaigned AGAINST Reagan on in the primaries eight years earlier - our friend Bob Dole couldn't get the nomination because he was perceived as being too conservative [or had Dukakis started campaigning immediately after his convention instead of taking a month OFF!] - he might not have!). Conservatism is NOT what genuine Republicanism is all about. From 1856 to 1960 - over 100 years - we were NOT the party of CONSERVATISM anyway (Ohio's Senator Robert Taft - the conservative wing - couldn't ever get a presidential nomination, even in the McCarty years, and Nelson Rockefeller - moderate wing - came within a hair's breath as late as 1968)! REAL Republicans were/are either radical LIBERALS or at worst moderates. The country, in its wisdom has just re-elected the best, most effective moderate REPUBLICAN President since Eisenhower - he just happened to be running as a Democrat!

This man was elected by the Marxist people of America and is not my president we are no longer a free people and are not the America that I have grown and I am sorry to have served in the military and am ashamed to be an American.
seanomelb | Nov 08, 2012, 08:07 PM EST
Goodbye Karl Rove. Dick Morris what a clown to paraphrase him I missed this and I didn't take that into consideration. The people have spoken and as Ephraim stated move forward.
EamonnDublin | Nov 08, 2012, 07:05 PM EST
"Susan724" - My post was what is called IRONY. This is signalled by my spellings of the words, my exaggeration of the length of the words. It's a bit of a habit of mine. Possibly you, also, are being ironic? Éamonn.
EphraimKibbey | Nov 08, 2012, 06:51 PM EST
PhlutiePhan - Thank God that there were more of those you call "barbarians" voting on Tuesday than those who believe in hatred of people who do not look, act and believe just the way that they decree! "Love thy neighbor won and hate the other lost. NOW - GET OVER IT! Join us in moving America FORWARD to prosperity.
ceceann | Nov 08, 2012, 05:57 PM EST
@olovely--NOT--What is racist about Phlutie's post? Why is he/she not as entitled as you to post his/her opinion? What makes you think he/she has anything to do with the Tea Party? Your bias is showing and your first response is to play the race card. Censorship is the first step to a dictatorship. Is that your goal?
seanomelb | Nov 08, 2012, 05:25 PM EST
The poor old cardinal has to hold his rage, rage is a sin. Maybe he'll read letters from the pulpit asking the party of no to meet the prez half way on formulating a budget or would they rather see the country fall into a financial abyss. The people have spoken he (Obama) carried the popular vote and the college. Time for the GOP to move on and leave the likes of Bachmann behind to wallow in their ignorance.
exmarine54 | Nov 08, 2012, 05:10 PM EST
Great reply by jim carey of all people, whereas cardinal Dolan makes u wonder if he is praying for the nation , the prez,,, or the hope for what? Prayers will NEVER answer the issue of compromise....and as Martin Buber pointed out: "Men meet, mountains NEVER meet...." put your pride aside and work for the country's overall good,,,,
olovely | Nov 08, 2012, 03:30 PM EST
The poster called PhlutiePhan should be banned for that openly racist "barbarians" post. Disgusting stuff. And an example of the kind of bullying abuse that puts people of Tea Partiers.
cillowen | Nov 08, 2012, 03:22 PM EST
thrump is fired up fired up he's fired up for obama both of whom were born in kenya - thrump put a squirrel on his head to hide his afro - its itch is driving him over the edge. the cliff
StevieVirginia | Nov 08, 2012, 02:23 PM EST
Four more years of Barack Obama. My question is for the 2 jack asses leading the charge for the angry white man: Who's head explodes first? Rush Limbaughs or Donald Trumps.
CelticQueenUSA | Nov 08, 2012, 01:10 PM EST
The best late night I have ever had. Now congress needs to put its pettiness aside and cooperate with this administration so we call ALL MOVE FORWARD!
MichaelJTully | Nov 08, 2012, 12:47 PM EST
Should someone try and have old Trumpy certified, before he hurts himself. Or is there no one out there to take care of him, maybe a group could be formed to help him in his hours of madness.
Searlit | Nov 08, 2012, 12:31 PM EST
Take it easy, all you righties. The President was re-elected and you'll be okay. We are all in this together. I know that doesn't sound so good to you, but it's reality. I hope everyone can get over themselves enough to work together, this time around. Sláinte!
TheNetherlands | Nov 08, 2012, 12:25 PM EST
When I look at that pic of D.Trump I just want to first shove quick dryin cement in his mouth til it's full then wrap duck tape around it about 100 times. Hey maybe his wife will read this and do it while he's a sleep.
eileenkny | Nov 08, 2012, 12:06 PM EST
Trump should stick to real estate. He's one of those that's only famous because his mouth is so big and mean.
PhlutiePhan | Nov 08, 2012, 11:46 AM EST
The barbarians are no longer at the gates. They are in the city and settling down as the rulers of the new Babylon. The Marxist will now take it to the next level. The Irish should have paid attention to Jodi Kantor.
susan724 | Nov 08, 2012, 11:44 AM EST
