Seanturd is at it again the miserable little man.Imagine holding up to the world a non person like Wayne who refused to fight for his country(WW2) then hande in the names of fellow actors who fought fo their contry to McCarthy.Wayne was a coward and miserable tout.

Everyone I know regards this as a comedy film. I am always happy for the world to under estimate us.

leah: It is true that there is excellent acting in this film but, you are absolutely correct in nearly all of your statements about the erroneous and very negative impressions about Ireland and its people held my many Americans of Irish descent (including a first cousin of mine). These Millions of these people perceive themselves to be vastly superior to us mere Irish, whom they premsume consume enormous quantities of potatoes and beer every day. But they do not think we are entirly to blame for this because it is caused by our inferior DNA, which we acquired by having the misfortune of being born in Ireland, a land of misery and poverty, ignorance and superstition, starvation and disease.

Not only is this film embarrassing, but Darby O'Gill and the little people, Tom Cruise in Far and Away and others have hacked off Irish people for years!

For years Irish people have been embarrassed by this film and also Darby O'Gill and the little people (squirming even now) and Tom Cruise's accent in Far and Away ("you're a corker Shannon"). We Irish could not understand what they were talking about. Hollywood myths about Ireland persist even to this day. Lepracauns, pots of gold,banshees, begorrah and bejapers please,I mean they never existed. Songs like Mother Macree, Danny Boy, they were not written by Irish people! When I first visited the U.S. in 1976 people were disappointed I was not wearing a red petticoat like O'Hara, collecting for the IRA didn't eat a lot of potatoes and kept dyeing my drinks green for God's sake! Things have improved over the years but you still meet Irish Americans who are surprised we have an airport, Google etc.

@jacersagain, it's not that. I think it's a poor example for people. It smacks of domestic violence. Love isn't about controlling someone.

Sean: You're on the button. First time I ever heard O'Hara with accent,that was accent wasn't it?Well,overacted.I heard it was Victor McLaglen first trip to Ireland.Based on short story by Maurice Walsh, about an IRA man returning home with many misgivings.

Probably one of the worst movies of all times.It had a weak plot and O"Hara and Wayne overacted,only Americans would love this sugary insulting quasi-Irish myth.
