Vice President Joe Biden, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Arizona Senator Gabrielle Giffords are on the cover of this week’s TIME Magazine stamped over as ‘The Gunfighters.’
In the wake of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting that claimed 26 lives, politicians are under increasing pressure to take a stance regarding gun control. Biden, Bloomberg and Giffords have emerged as some of the strongest champions for stricter gun control in the US.
Vice President Biden was given orders by President Obama in the wake of Sandy Hook to head a gun control task force committee. Biden has been rallying cops, clergy, and victims of shootings among others to help stage the fight for stronger gun control.
Since the assembling of his panel, President Obama himself has dedicated himself to gun legislation reform as well, and has put forward 23 orders for stricter gun control.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a longtime supporter of stricter gun legislation, is working in conjunction with Boston mayor Thomas Merino in an initiative called the Mayors Coalition Against Illegal Guns. Mayor Bloomberg has praised New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s recent bids to strengthen control in NY State.
Former Arizona Senator Gabrielle Giffords was a victim of a shooting in January 2011 when she was at a Safeway supermarket in Arizona. On that day, Giffords was shot in the head but survived and is now a fighting force for gun reform in America.
Giffords’ former staffer Rep. Barber, who was also wounded in the 2011 Arizona shooting, said that Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly ‘will be making visits to members of the Congress, and will be trying to…lay out their case.’
Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly co-founded ‘Americans for Responsible Solutions,’ which encourages elected officials to ‘stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership.’
The issue of TIME is on newsstands now.

Scrivner the atricle is about new gun laws not "dirty air/water or jets". The only threat to children is people with guns!! Do we take away the people or take away the guns

EK stirring up your base to generate funds and action is not the preserve of the nutty right. The looney left has used such solicitations, too. "Republicans just want dirty air & water," to "H.W. Bush flew a stealth jet across country to subvert an election" to "Mitt Romney wants to force women to bear unwanted births and die." were the themes that I have seen over the years.

Even before the President identified the elements of his plan, the RIGHT WING NUTS and the GUN NUTS were on the air and the internet talking about how he was violating his oath to the constitution by his executive orders and should be impeached. Some even showed that they were unsuited mentally to be gun owners by talking about killing people if gun control laws were passed. I salute that state's government for immediately suspending that joker's concealed carry permit. Now that Obama has clarified what he has done on his own as only tightening enforcement of the laws that the legislature already passed, backing the NRA's proposal to increase the number of armed resource officers in schools (contrary to the NRA's latest ad) and enabling research into gun violence and its causes, the GUN NUTS and RIGHT WING NUTS are STILL raising money and stirring up uninformed gun owners against him. All of the stuff that they are claiming he is doing on his own are things that he has asked the Congress to do and has asked people to write their represenatives urging them to pass. These idiots have not learned anything from the last election about how playing fast and loose with the truth just angers the voters. I see the two most important steps as making every gun transfer linked to a background check (firearms dealers should be backing that one) and making sure that the database used for those checks is up to date and includes those judged to be a danger to themselves or others. Both of these regulate people not guns so NO ONE should dispute them!
