With Joseph P. Kennedy III making a bid for Congress, it appears another member of the Irish American political dynasty may throw his hat into the ring and join the family business.

According to the Boston Herald
, Edward M. Kennedy Jr., the eldest son of the late Massachusetts senator Ted Kennedy, is reportedly consulting Washington political veterans and giving indications he is seriously considering a run for office.

Kennedy, 50, was reportedly in discussion with longtime Democratic strategist Steve McMahon to help him coordinate media interviews at the party convention in Charlotte.

'He’s aware his father always wanted him to serve,' a Democratic source told the Herald.

Kennedy lives in Connecticut with his wife, Kiki, and two teenage children and runs a successful New York-based health care services business. But observers say he may be considering a political run in the neighboring state of Massachusetts, where his family name has major pull with voters.

In an interview with the Herald at the Democratic convention, Ted Jr. added to the speculation about his political ambitions by saying: 'Hopefully one day I’ll have the honor to serve.'

If he does decide to run the question is whether he will stay in Connecticut or move to Massachusetts, where a wide-open governor’s race in 2014 beckons, as well as a possible US Senate seat if President Obama wins re-election and names Democratic incumbent John Kerry as new his secretary of state.

Meanwhile Massachusetts state Democrats have embraced Joseph P. Kennedy III, son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, in his bid for Congress. Kennedy won his primary handily and faces Republican Sean Bielat in November.

Although Ted Kennedy Jr. has 'no plans' to leave Connecticut and move to Massachusetts right now behind the scenes he is already being strongly encouraged to run for office there.

I hope the son of a bitch dosen't make an ass of himself like his murdering drunk of a father.
What's this about replacing Hillary with Kerry? Hillary is a big reason some of us still consider supporting Obama.
There's nothing more hateful to a republican than a rich guy who champions the middle class and the poor.
i really HOPE, he DOES run....to HELL WITH THE KENNEDY HATERS...THEY'VE FOUGHT FOR THE LITTLE GUY...FOR HEALTH CARE AND SUCH....if they cheat on their spouse, that's between THEM....that has NOTHING to do with ME or anyone else, imo. boy the older he gets, the MORE he looks like his dad. alisa ps: YES, I LIKE THE KENNEDYS.
God I hope not and I don't even live in Massachusetts anymore. The last thing (any) state needs is more plutocrats "serving" them. How about a truckdriver, nurse, secretary, baker, accountant, or someone "of the people" in that position? People who run for public office need to be very aware that they are not entering the management, they are becoming the hired help accountable to The People, (The Management!) They are not in office to try to tell THE PEOPLE what to do! They are there to do our bidding!
If this is what they want to do then they deserve a chance. I haven't heard anything bad about either one of these Kennedys. I hope they succeed and restore the respect that rightly comes from success.
Governor, Senator, Congressional Representative as entry-level positions in politics???? Would they consider trying for a city council job, or that of a small-town mayor or state senator/representative to get their feet wet? It is so clear that these people are trading on their names and nothing more.
Not all mass. residents are encouraging him to run. I for one can't stand the idea of another Kennedy in office. There hasn't been a decent Kennedy in office since Jack and Bobby. the rest are all far more liberal then they where. I'm guessing every time Ted wrote a bill they were turning in their graves. Hopefully when they met ted in the afterlife the bitch slapped him.....
I hope he has better morals than his father.
If he is chip of the old block then we are in deep trouble much deeper than we are now.
I guess the Kennedys don't ever read these comments or they wouldn't even attempt to run. The country is sick of the Kennedys and what they stand for, abortion, same-sex marriage, murder (and getting away with it). They are the most liberal people and to be honest, sick of hearing about them. Disappointed in Caroline and her change on Obama, called him a liar then backs him and his stand on abortion. Obviously they can be bought!!
