The mother of Ronan Sean Thompson, the little Irish American boy whose death from cancer inspired Taylor Swift to write a best-selling song in his memory, has told how amazing the reaction has been.

The song “Ronan” is a runaway hit and is now number one most downloaded on iTunes.

Writing in her blog “Rockstar Ronan” Maya Thompson, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona, and has two other children, Liam and Quinn, stated that people had said to her, “You are famous now.”

“I just replied with a simple, “No I’m not. I’m just a sad mom who lost her son and who would do anything to have him back.

“I almost threw up at that famous word. Famous because my son died and some beautiful girl wrote a song about him? No. Not famous.

“Just a mom who is in a very sad world now and someone very sweet decided to do something very beautiful because she has such a wonderful heart. I’m not sure quite what to do with all this attention.

I just want it to all go to the awareness that childhood cancer needs, deserves and wants.

I want our story to inspire kids to become doctors, who will do everything they can, to change the awful statistics, outcomes and treatments of childhood cancer.”

Maya Thompson's 3-year-old son Ronan was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma in August 2010. Maya is now pregnant again.

Maya started a blog which was picked up and read by Taylor Swift.

Swift took the words that Maya had written and after Ronan died she wrote the song that made its debut at the Stand Up to Cancer 2012 telethon.

"Everyone is going to know his name," Thompson wrote.

"Ronan" shot up the charts reaching No. 1 on the iTunes sales chart on  Sunday.

The Ronan Thompson Foundation was created and has since been dedicated to finding a cure for neuroblastoma.

Thompson told AZCentral that since "Ronan" topped the charts, she's been pinching herself. "It's ... putting a face to childhood cancer that we didn't have before. Nobody wants to talk about childhood cancer. It's too sad. But the sad thing is there are 46 kids diagnosed a day and seven of those kids will die a day. It's sad that no one wants to pay attention to that. And I think now that she's taken this stand, it's just going to do incredible things for the awareness," she said.

The lyrics to the song are poignant and moving and based on Maya’s own blogs.

“I remember your bare feet down the hallway
I remember your little laugh
Race cars on the kitchen floor
Plastic dinosaurs, I love you to the moon and back

I remember your blue eyes looking into mine like we had our own secret club
I remember you dancing before bed time then jumping on me waking me up
I can still feel you hold my hand
Little man, from even that moment I knew
You fought it hard like an army guy
Remember I leaned in and whispered to you

Chorus:
Come on baby with me
We're gonna fly away from here
You were my best four years

I remember the drive home when the blind hope
Turned to crying and screaming, "Why?"
Flowers piled up in the worst way
No one knows what to say about a beautiful boy who died

And it's about to be Halloween
You could be anything you wanted if you were still here
I remember the last day when I kissed your face
I whispered in your ear

Come on baby with me
We're gonna fly away from here
Out of this curtained room and this hospital gray will just disappear
Come on baby with me
We're gonna fly away from here
You were my best four years

What if I'm standing in your closet trying to talk to you?
What if I kept the hand me downs you won't grow into?
And what if I really thought some miracle would see us through?
But what if the miracle was even getting one moment with you

Come on baby with me
We're gonna fly away from here
Come on baby with me
We're gonna fly away from here
You were my best four years

I remember your bare feet down the hallway
I love you to the moon and back.

beautiful, and sad ,if people who are quick to rage and thoughtless violence against others could feel a little of the pain of this mothers loss,it just might make them think a little of what they are inflicting.
What a beautiful child and we can only imagine his mother's and family's grief at his passing. I think the young, thoughtful Taylor Swift has done a great deal to put forth the horrors of childhood cancer. We give monthly to St. Jude's Hospital to try to obliterate this horror. I cannot believe the lack of blogs on this story and the content of two of them. Cillowan seems to be still tied into the idiocy of topless Kate, and that can be taken two ways. Sometimes it is better to stay under wraps. MacGregor's only concern is that Thompson is a Scots-Irish name. No concern for Ronan and family or mention of the thoughtfulness of Taylor Swift only for a name, and his supposed background. A great deal lacking there as even the US elimated the Scots-Irish ethnicity last year as ridiculous. It comes to my mind for all the warriors and royals grovelers out there that many children like Ronan have died needlessly from famine and war to allow these royal idiots to vacation in a 642 acre chalet and flash their chest. We had the same scenario with Harry in Las Vegas in an $8,000 dollar a room night, party girls and God knows what was ingested. God bless Ronan, his family and Taylor, but remember the children like Ronan who starved and were killed by the meglomaniacs who run this world. As an American I am so sick of hearing about this idiotic, inbred royal family, and even to have them mentioned on a post as meaningful as this one is an outrage.
So sad. Can't help but tear up hearing that. Unfortuneatly, I think VonLiebenitz, all too accurately, depicts the duplicitous state of the pharmaceutical/ healthcare industries, at present. Come on people, we can do better than this, for each other's sake!
If the establishment really wanted to end cancer then they would admit and make freely available Vitamin B17 that has been proven the eradicate cancer cells amongst other healthy side effects it produces.Ask them why they banned it.Laetrile is the active ingredient. They claim correctly that it contains posions and toxins like aresnic and cyanide but claim fail to comment on the a fact that as it is a whole food it is harmless to the human body but deadly to cancer cells. The only posionus things are when they isolate these substances in their purest form unnaturally. As usual they are using the publics ignorance and scare tactic to ban completely healthy substances.Research has shown that eating apricot seeds(a good source of B17) can even prevent cancer. Why would they do this?Cancer is big buisiness. It suits them to have a financially and emotionally drained and traumatised population(more homes for the banks the sieze). This is a huge issue and the recent move on the part of the EU to ban all herbal remedies under the guise of safety regulations(you now need or will need a licence to sell products proven safe and effective by centuries of use. This is simply a ploy to consolidate their hold on the Pharmaceutical companies(companis which bring a relatively large part of Irish GDP).So the Irish government is only too willing to bend over backwards for these professional crooks and drug dealers these pharmaceutical companies so that they can continue to bail out the banks using this money amongst other sources.Certain powerful interests(the Rotchilds are one key player) in the petro chemkical industry stand to benefit most by either making herbal remedies hard to impossible to get thereby forcing ppl to use their alternative or they will simply buy up all the companies presently struggling under the weight of the financial situation y solidifying their monopoly even further.
the concern over katie exposed boobies is most displeasing to nigh all patriots unlike the blasphemous video that gets them creaming.
Thompson is a Scottish surname, not Irish. He's Scottish-American.
The song is useless.Poor effort as usual from mediocre artists.Topping the charts is meaningless when the songs are instantly forgettable. In two years time it will never be played.
Even the heavens are crying for this beautiful little boy, but he is an angel who will forever be with you, and someday you'll meet again.
Those are the saddest, and sweetest, lyrics. I am crying. Taylor Swift sounds like one of the better celebrities out there.
