Susan Boyle shocker: Superstar skips performance on doctors' advice

Concert-goers stunned, many in tears at news of turn in singer's health

In a shocking surprise that left her fans in tears, Susan Boyle pulled out of Sunday's "Britain's Got Talent "live tour after doctors told her the stress would be too much for her.

The 48-year-old Scottish singer was due on stage for a matinee and evening show at the Manchester Evening News Arena, but concert-goers were greeted at the door with notices announcing she would not be performing.

The tour hits Boyle's native Scotland Monday night, and Boyle's rep confirmed to today that she'll be in attendance.

Her rep stated: "She had one rest day, but she will be back on stage tonight."

but it is still unknown whether she will be fit enough to perform at Glasgow SECC.

The church volunteer, who shot to worldwide fame after stunning a live audience and a skeptical panel of judges with a towering version of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the Broadway show "Les Miserables," received standing ovations at the tour's previous shows in Birmingham and Sheffield.

Boyle said she got the courage to perform when she visited the Irish shrine of Our Lady of Knock after the death of her beloved mother, and told the judges she wanted to show the world she could do something with her life.

Hounded day and night by the bloodthirsty British press, which referred to her in almost every story as "the 48-year-old virgin," Boyle was admitted to the Priory clinic after the shocking finale in which she came in second to dance troupe Diversity.

A spokesperson for Boyle said only: "Following three sensational performances, Susan Boyle has been advised to rest."

The spokesperson stressed Boyle had not been ruled out of the rest of the 21-date tour across Britain.
