Staten Island Pride hosts "St. Patrick’s Gay Dinner Dance" next month
Dinner dance will honor two figures in the LGBT community
Staten Island Pride Events will be hosting their fourth annual St. Patrick’s Gay Dinner Dance on Saturday March 10th in Richmond on Staten Island. The event is one of the very few LGBT events scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day.
SILive reports that at the dinner dance, which will serve a traditional corn beef and cabbage dinner, two important figures in the Staten Island LGBT community will be featured as honorees.
Gail Kelley serves as the Director of Development at the Alice Austen House on Staten Island. Alice Austen was “one of Staten Island's most noted lesbians was born on St. Patrick's Day in 1896. She and Gertrude Tate had a 50 year relationship living in the Alice Austen House
living ‘the love that dare not speak its name.’”
Kelley has also served on Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) for over four years.
Also being honored at the dance is City Councilman Daniel Patrick Dromm, a teacher at PS 199 in Queens, who traces his Irish roots back to his maternal grandparents, natives of Cork and Galway. Dromm is the founder of Queens Pride, “which attracts more than 20,000 spectators and is streamed live on the Internet to a global audience.”
