Those posters in "Melbourne" were not elected by the Irish people but the TD's were. You cannot make Ireland what you wish it to be from the other side of the world (and God help our children if you could), only the people of the Irish Republic can. McGuinness CAN'T VOTE in the Republic AS HE IS A NON-RESIDENT AND GERRY ADAMS IS ONLY A VISITOR FROM WEST BELFAST where he still lives. As for DeValera and Collins, it was a different Sinn Fein in those days. They did not kill innocent children with bombs and guns or make people disappear. The Irish Parliament would have evolved anyway as this is what the voters wanted and now have. McGuinness and Adams would not be acceptable as Taoiseach and President to voters (as the results bear this out). To give them that power would have been destructive for Ireland and would make us a laughing stock around the world. They're definitely not democrats!

"Sinn Fein cannot embrace democratic norms ..." since there are no democratic norms to embrace. Difficult to embrace the non exstent in an overall national context. More partitionist political schizophrenia from the heirs apparent to O'Duffyism. An inconvenient truth is that both Citizen McGuinness and Citizen Adams got more votes than Pearse and Connolly ever did. What an occupational hazard democracy (sic) has become. There were far less casualties in the Old Bailey bombing than Royal Air Force (RAF) Bomber Harris's gig at Dresden. Are the Irish Independent and Fine Gael in coalition. Having done the dirty on the best president Ireland never had, they're now trying to electorally subvert the best Taoiseach Ireland ever could have. When push comes to shove, Mé Feiners will always sacrifice nationality on the alter of perks and privileges. Catch [19]22 revisited.

Mandela was a great supporter of Sinn Fein and an admirer of Adams, they were fighting the same fight of bigotry and oppression. Kilsally!! what's the use in banging heads with such a stupid anti-Irish moron such as you.

political witch hunt.to continue digging up the past can only reignite the future.the pain and suffering of everyone involved in that conflict/ surely no one wants that all over again.terrible things happened on both sides,to try one side and ignore what the other did is no way to peace.

rebelforce - there have been inquiries in northern Ireland into both Pat Finucance & Rosemary Nelson with millions spent - there are thousands of families with relatives killed on both sides who got no such inquiries. The IRA & other Republican paramilitaries/terrorists killed two thirds of all victims in the Troubles. Also Finucane was in the IRA and at IRA meetings with Gerry Adams to former IRA commander Sean O`Callaghan - google article `Finucane should not have been killed - but he was in the IRA` - these human rights and civil rights monikers don`t always reveal the whole truth.

comparisons with Mandela are silly - Mandela never denied his actions or membership. We now have 3 prominent Provisional IRA people who have said Adams was in command of significant parts of the IRA - including the English bombing campaign and the abduction, torture, killing of the `disappeared` many of who have not yet been found - yet Admas continually insists he was NEVER in the IRA

How stupid to try to compare Adams with Mandela…Mandela’s leadership of the ANC is a matter of public record, acknowledged with pride by Nelson himself…it’s not Gerry’s past that’s the issue…it’s HIS DENIAL of that past…

Excellent point seanomelbourne. Why isn't the Irish government demanding answers about the unsolved murders of Civil Rights attorney Patrick Finucane, or the Human Rights activist Rosemary Nelson? Apparently, if some British loyalist terrorists did the killing, the Irish government isn't interested in questioning anybody.

Gerry's SinnFein party is getting the attention that the populace are getting to appreciate - the other Anglophile parties are quite happy sucking up what's left of the carcass of poodle piece with head missing Ireland. The fear of Gerry is most obvious were one to watch him being hounded in debate settings - that goes for the moderators as well.

Gordon is referring to Bobby Sands MP to use his proper title, voted in by a majority of the electorate as was Gerry Adams. Rebelforce makes a good point as Mandela was listed as a terrorist by good old Ronny Reagan and Ronny refused to ask the apartheid South Africa to release him. I care not if Adams ordered the Old Bailey bombing and if the blow hards below wish for justice maybe they should show some balance and ask their British friends to charge the Tommy terrorist who murdered innocent people on bloody sunday or bring to justice the murderers who killed Finucane and Nelson. You're a bunch of west brit hypocrites.

Don't compare Collins and Pearse with the likes of Adams and Sands. 15,000 votes only. Adams does need to answer questions. I want to know what happened to Jean McConville and the other people who disappeared, these people cannot be forgotten. We must have answers now.
