Sinead O’Connor has threatened to shoot the pope if he visits Ireland in an expletive loaded assault on Pope Benedict.
Friends now fear for her mental state after her outburst, which has shocked those closest to her.
She warned of a "f ***in bloodbath" if Pope Benedict was to visit Ireland as has been mooted.
Her latest ouburst came on Twitter after a poll was carried out on whether Pope Benedict should visit Ireland.
She warned that there would be a "f **kin bloodbath". She tweeted "'Young people of Ireland I love u' said Sinead as she pulled the f ***ing trigger,"
‘Young People of Ireland I love You” is the phrase made famous by Pope John Paul 11 when he came to Ireland in 1979
Sinead also wrote; "There'd be a f**kin bloodbath. Me meet the f **ker off the plane myself," she added.

Police rush to Sinead O’Connor’s home after serious online suicide bid
__________________________________________________________
O’Connor is infamous for tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul on Saturday Night Live in 1992 when she showed a photo of Pope John Paul II to the camera while chanting the word "evil", after which she tore the photo into pieces, and said "Fight the real enemy."
A senior bishop in the Celtic Church, who also left the priesthood and has been critical of the pope took issue with Sinead in the Evening Herald newspaper.
Antrim Bishop Pat Buckley today stated the comments were "extreme" "This is extreme language and it's very worrying," he said.
"I spoke to Sinead a while ago and she's an incredibly talented person. She's a genius in fact. But she's clearly very vulnerable. We cannot condone that type of language, they are very extreme words to use.
"I would hope that if there are people close to her, that they will support her during this time. She appears by her comments that she's near the edge."
Earlier this month O’Connor stated that she wanted to commit suicide after the breakup of her third marriage.

Sinead - don't kill yourself. Think of your kids!!!
MissSusie | Apr 06, 2012, 01:34 AM EDT
Sinead is not crazy! She has to learn to express differently. She also was mad at PJPII back in the 1980s. Horrible picture of her, also.
shamrockfm | Oct 04, 2011, 02:15 PM EDT
Sinead, as i said to you recently on National Radio...I'd really like to be right behind you! Yet. I think a Nice Man can realy sort you out, TRY author John J May, He likes you! alanhunter@dublin.ie

Nice.
oldboreen | Sep 28, 2011, 08:40 AM EDT
Will someone explain please, preferably someone with legal knowledge (not to mention medical knowledge!)Sinead has made it known on the internet, that she intends to kill the Pope. Should not the Garda be taking this threat very seriously indeed? Has she not already commited an offence? OK, she may be mentally unbalanced, but until that is certain,we have to assume she intends to carry out her threat whilst in full command of her faculties. Either way--arrest her now-not least for her own good.

Will you all just read back on your own comments, Sinead just made a bloody comment, and as Sinead would say ( most of you here need f.....g treatment )

This one is crazier than a sh*thouse rat!!!! She needs an immediate intervention and heavy medication!

That sort both language and sentiment is as dangerous as it is wrong. Poor woman. So sad. I'm certain the the Pope would and perhaps does pray for her. Does she pray for the Pope? Does she pray at all. I pray for them both. I invite you all to join me here.

@Gobshite.You're showing all the signs of inbreeding yourself
minstrel312 | Sep 26, 2011, 12:09 PM EDT
Sinead's a flipping twit and he's starting to sound a lot like Mel Gibson. I'm only half-Irish but I'm proud of that half and this sorry shamrock does not speak for THIS McGuire.
minstrel312 | Sep 26, 2011, 10:17 AM EDT
The treat to kill another is a crime. Was she arrested?
oldboreen | Sep 26, 2011, 10:06 AM EDT
'Celtic Church?'Has that been reformed? No one told me! When was that? Sinead is merely 'performing again'- it's what she does; so much cheaper than hiring a publicity manager. Apart from possibly Madonna, Sinead is the ultimate self-publicist. We may confidently expect more!
maryosullivan | Sep 26, 2011, 09:49 AM EDT
Odd isn't it everyone know about Sinead's tearing up the Pope's picture, I expect it's due to the constant reminder of it every time her name arrears in the the news. What I find odd is, if this is such an atrocity why isn't Paisley's tearing up the Pope's picture mentioned when his name is in the news, and he was a politician at the time. Sinead is an entertainer without the same responsibility to the public
jhmdeuce | Sep 26, 2011, 09:07 AM EDT
I thought Sinbad was a "priestess" in the Palmerian Catholic Church? Is this a hate crime? Has Ireland finally gone over the edge?
cuddlybuddly | Sep 26, 2011, 07:40 AM EDT
To Sinead- Do not become the Lunatic the Media craves to Expoit! in every dysfunctional Family there is a scapegoat- please do not become the sacrifice we all need to restore homeostasis (Ireland is a great country) Keep expressing the truth! You are not crazy...everyone else is!
gobdawpaddy | Sep 26, 2011, 06:32 AM EDT
Bogsidebunny observes about ireland 'What a wacko place. National inbreeding has that effect' Now Bogside, don't be too hard on the Irish. Of course inbreeding is a factor, but you have to consider that ireland is an island nation with a small population and therefore a limited gene pool. Cousins are going to end up with cousins, mostly unintentionally. Arkansas is a small state with similar problems although I am unsure as to how much tey care down there as to if marriage between family is intentional or not.
StevieVirginia | Sep 26, 2011, 01:43 AM EDT
Shoot yourself, you fuzzy headed ugly woman!
warlocks | Sep 26, 2011, 12:57 AM EDT
Sounds like she has flipped her lid ! YOU Just can't go shooting people you don't like . for one thing its a crime. and second it's uncivlized. and third IT would not cure anything because they would elect another Pope , and it would be the same Monkey business .nothing would change, The People have the power to change the Catholic Church . by not giving it Money let the corrupt church the Vatican Die. its no longer Gods Church its a corrupt and tainted Old Boys Club Run by Vipers.

Really, do we care?
What's IrishCentral's/James O'Shea's agenda here exactly?
bogsidebunny | Sep 26, 2011, 12:27 AM EDT
Ya know if Sinead wants some attention she should come to the U.S.A. and issue that threat against President Obama. She'd find herself chained to a dank wall for a long time. America where you can use the "N" word freely, but can't threaten a head of State. Ireland where you can freely threaten to shoot a head of State, but you'll be arrested and jailed for using the dreaded "N" word. What a wacko place. National inbreeding has that effect!
noeldoyle | Sep 26, 2011, 12:18 AM EDT
Sinead O Connor needs to be committed to a mental home, to protect her poor children and the general public. She has'nt been sane for a long long time. She just NEEDS ATTENTION!!!
falconflash | Sep 25, 2011, 10:07 PM EDT
SINead wants the Church to approve of her abortions......she needs to confess her sins before it is too late, but, alas this girl is too proud and arrogant to humble herself before God.....
Collette2 | Sep 25, 2011, 09:27 PM EDT
Maybe an exorcist got at her, in that case she's got nowhere to go poor thing, the church is full of them, or those who believe they have a deliverence ministry.
sirpeter | Sep 25, 2011, 08:12 PM EDT
journalism has alot to answer for.She might be a public figure. As I said before she needs help.Printing this stuff only makes things worse for her.She is a pop singer.A nobody really. The only person who she will hurt is herself and her kids.

This is one very disturbed human. I stopped following Ms. O'Connor years ago. Personally, I think the word schizophrenic comes to my mind.

Sleazy journalism panders to our worst inclinations. There is an urge to laugh at sanctimonious celebrities when they are coming/have come apart. But we usually catch ourselves and empathize to some degree with their distress. Of course her posse is long gone. Unlike their insect namesakes, human leeches abandon their host when illness becomes apparent. Doesn't Sinead have any family or friends who can help her?
Yankee724 | Sep 25, 2011, 05:54 PM EDT
Looks like St. Patrick didn't get rid of ALL the snakes in Ireland! She's getting so pretty too, in her old age-LOVELY hairdo! Of course, leave it to IRISH CENTRAL (IRISH LEFT) to give a front page space to this raving lunatic. Too much hate , Sinead,...give it up and learn to have love in your heart!
marzal1 | Sep 25, 2011, 05:13 PM EDT
Oh and Mandrake, you are a psychopath. Look it up.
marzal1 | Sep 25, 2011, 05:11 PM EDT
Far, far more irresponsible however- her so called "twitter fans" goading her on while she spins out further into a sad/ manic spiral and newspapers that can't wait to report, in their "entertainment" sections every outrageous thing she utters while in this state. Despicable.
marzal1 | Sep 25, 2011, 05:03 PM EDT
At best, Sinead's tweets in the last month have been stunningly irresponsible. First she justifies her suicidal tweets as being a mere expression of frustration and sadness asserting that people who talk about committing suicide are unlikely to do it. Of course they do. Many do. Now she threatens to kill someone. More harmless "self expression" or a real threat that may result in a murder attempt? How is anyone to know?
Woodman | Sep 25, 2011, 04:45 PM EDT
Pretty sure the Pope will be safe in Ireland despite Sinead. It's too bad she is known more for these kind of extreme statements, than any of her recent work.
mandrake | Sep 25, 2011, 04:43 PM EDT
I think she should put the business end of the gun in her gob and do what she's been promising us for ages.
MikeB74 | Sep 25, 2011, 02:55 PM EDT
What's wrong with Sinead? Dose she want to go to prision because technically couldn't she be sent to jail or prision for threatening our current Pontiff? She needs help. First she ripped a photo of our late Pontiff John Paul II. on Saturday Night live back then and now she is threatening our current Pontiff Benedict XVI with death if he come to Ireland. Like I said she needs help. Finally I have never heard where the Irish and I'm part Irish have ever wanted to kill people who set foot in there country GAPetrie. Where you got that from I don't know?

If the media would stop paying attention to her, she would melt into oblivion. It seems, after all, that is where she is headed on her own anyway.

GAPetrie | Sep 25, 2011, 01:32 PM EDT
I take back my previous statement. After reading her website blog and looking all through her website, I think the media gives us an unfair assessment of the woman. In her blog she says she writes candidly and raunchily about sex because it feels more sane and free to her than keeping things bottled up. She blames theocracy for the expected norms of sexual repression. I think she's valid in all that. And she says she feels suicidal when people put her down as "insane". I think it would make anybody suicidal to be belittled for doing what makes you feel happy and sane. As far as threatening to kill the Pope... does that surprise anyone? As far as "normal" behaviour is concerned, I thought that was normal behaviour for the Irish, to threaten to kill people they don't like if they ever set foot in Ireland. And here's a woman who ripped the Pope up on national television. Who's having trouble putting 2 2 together?

GAPetrie | Sep 25, 2011, 12:34 PM EDT
That's sort of hilarious in a way. But it is sad that she's spiraling into some kind of horrific meltdown. More relevant, though, is how is she having so much trouble getting laid? I haven't seen a recent pic, but isn't she supposed to be gorgeous?
Silling | Sep 25, 2011, 12:25 PM EDT
Sinead is not mad, she is simply a woman. Here in the Village of Lacoste in Provence, a local woman called Cecille Lindfors has told the press that she bought a bottle of Champagne to celebrate Monsieur Pierre Cardin's death. If they hadn't vaginas, nobody would be bothered with them!
irelandmusic | Sep 25, 2011, 12:15 PM EDT
she needs a mental checkup
BrSeanFrancis | Sep 25, 2011, 11:52 AM EDT
Sinead is a in alot of trouble. She needs to be admitted to a mental hospital for evaluation if she attempted to kill herself and now openly states she wants to kill the pope. She is a threat to herself and others. I never did like her music or her views, except everyone is allowed to have those views no matter how bad or weird they are. There are a lot of things I am upset about what the church has done or didnt do, but that is live......I am a victim of the church abuse in the 60's but I never gave up on my faith it is not the catholic faith that is the crime it is the people who run it.
LizFlady | Sep 25, 2011, 11:38 AM EDT
She disgusts me. No one in the public eye should speak of "killing anyone" even if she's just saying it. Some demented freak will do just that and, should that happen, she should be held as an accomplice. She's a violent, and obviously an unstable person who should get the mental help she shows that she needs.
cuddlybuddly | Sep 25, 2011, 11:37 AM EDT
The Pope has responded appallingly to the crimes committed by Catholic Priests on helpless children in this country. Sinead's response to the Pope is entirely understandable and appropriate as a form of expression. Parent's of Murdered children often respond the same way...evidence however would put Sinead amongst the most gentle and loving of children, She would not harm the innocent and is merely expressing the rage of a mother who's children have been raped by paedophile priests protected by this Pope..my concern is over there with the Vatican, not Sinead who has expressed herself passionately, and maybe the Pope hould be warned to stay away, enough damage has been done..I would hate to see Sinead locked up for a vengeful and futile act, how else can She express herself adequately ...there must be safer ways to use that energy
bunkerisland | Sep 25, 2011, 11:30 AM EDT
Most of us love Sinead for her powerful voice and presentation, including the lyrics. Some of us can identify with her hostility toward the catholic church and its leaders. Using this media source to constantly publicize Sinead's struggles, unusual behavior and over the top statements exploits her condition and cheapens this publication.
falconflash | Sep 25, 2011, 11:25 AM EDT
Sinead's conscience is troubled, with all the abortions she's had. Confession would be good for her soul, but she is too proud. If you've killed your child and don't reconcile with Jesus, how can you maintain your sanity? But the liberals in the media continue to goad her on.
bonjouryall | Sep 25, 2011, 11:18 AM EDT

ciarrai | Sep 25, 2011, 11:10 AM EDT
Sounds like a threat. Maybe the Gardai ought to arrest her for her threat. As much of a horror as the pedophile priests fiasco/Vatican reaction have been, is a threat to kill the Pope a good idea? Come on, Sinead, you can do better.

Sinead's family needs to step in and demand she gets help. She needs assistance and maybe medication to help clear her irrational thoughts.I pray for her. I am not this earth to judge others. In my human condition ,when I judged others ,{I keep working on this defect}I have always{when looking back} been guilty of the same crime. Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
Portia777 | Sep 25, 2011, 10:35 AM EDT
Loretobarbados. Sinead is far from a freak of nature. She is aspect of Mother Sekhmet in fact.Sinead is the one who called a spade a spade in 1992, when most people were living in fear of the men in black. Once again she speaks from the soul of the divine feminine and once again people diagnose her with a mental illness. Diagnosing her as mentally ill without being qualified and boned is a crime - just so you all know.It seems the old mentality that all women are feeble minded when they go against the establishment still stands as it did during the days of the Inquisition. Sinead is still light years ahead of most people.
phearne | Sep 25, 2011, 10:32 AM EDT
This woman is seriously disturbed and I hope her family recognizes that she is a danger to others as well as to herself and get her psychiatric help before she actually kills someone other than herself.
mamaginnty | Sep 25, 2011, 10:30 AM EDT
We all say things in the heat of the moment, maybe even worse than what Sinead has said. I said before that I have heard some of the abused tell what happened to them, so so sick to mention, and they do not hide thier feelings either. When someone is raped it is horrific for the victim but may have happened just once, in these cases the victims suffered the abuse not just once but constantly for weeks months and even years, Sinead was one of the very few who were brave enough to speak out years ago, but did anyone believe her...no, people were blessing themselves and calling her the devil, a druggie, alco, mental case, she was none of these, she was telling the truth, and needs help now to try and deal with it, many of these people feel exactly as she does. I for one do not want this pope to set foot in Ireland, he sickened me when he put the blame on the children for enticing the good priests to break thier holy vows, now he is blaming the mothers, who is the sick one, the pope or Sinead?
joeyreds | Sep 25, 2011, 10:27 AM EDT
she used to be a wonderful singer but now she is just a fool, loudmouth, worthless idiot.
Portia777 | Sep 25, 2011, 10:27 AM EDT
I note from comments that most want to lock Sinead up for expressing her anger. We all uses phrases like killing someone, but that does not mean we would actually do it. I find it more worrying that readers prefer to lock Sinead up rather than the Roman Patriarch whose cult has caused so much pain and sufering for thousands of years.Fear not the Pope and his army would not think twice about a blood bath in the name of His God.Look at our history and all the blood shed for the god of Roma.Do not think for one moment he would not do it all again. The Vatican Inc has been involved in more wars than people know... including the jesuits starting the Vietnam War. How about 1172- when the Vatican pope gave all Irish people AS SLAVES and our land to the King of Britain to keep us under control. Or how about Paddy the patriarch lining up irish children at Tara and setting fire to them in order to force parents to convert. So wake up, stop focusing on Sinead - deliberate distraction in the mind game of the media- divide and conquer and most of you fell for it.

donal1951 | Sep 25, 2011, 09:35 AM EDT
I agree with Pat Buckley and hope some of her friends come to her aid. But for safety's sake, she belongs in a locked mental ward for the duration of the pope's trip to Ireland, if in fact there is one. The Church of Rome has much to answer for, but killing a man in his 80s is not the solution.
