Sinead O’Connor has launched an extraordinary attack on Bono and Bob Geldof after she claims they refused to let her speak at an Amnesty concert for Nobel Prize winner Aung Suu Kyi in Dublin on Monday. She referred to Bono as “Bozo” in her attack made on Twitter.
O’Connor was asked to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U” for the Burmese leader who was in Dublin to receive the Freedom of the City. Over 2,000 turned up to hear the concert.
She refused to sing after being told she could not speak. She tweeted: "So Geldof and Bozo, u pair of lily livered cowards. Next time u want to insult me Do it to my face and dont evilly send... [director of Amnesty International Ireland] Colm O’Gorman to do it. "
"There is no such thing as freedom of speech for women in Ireland on this day, when the nice lady from Burma is being celebrated by those who... have attempted to gag a female artist, while at the same time exploiting her singing abilities."
She also attacked Bono for his tax exile record, tweeting: "I pay my taxes in Ireland Bozo."
She stated she would still love to perform for Kyi. "She is lovely. I will be happy to sing privately for her any time."
O’Connor has been much in the news recently over comments she has made on various topics including her search for a new husband, her hasty marriage, and her sex life.

Hmmm, I personally don't know what the fuss is about? They're going to fight over anything(protocol in this case) as they celebrate a representative of peace and freedom. Is somebody missing the point of her visit? Perhaps when the folks involved her can disagree and still support each others right to a different opinion her, Aung, message will have been heard. This is kind of like celebrating vegetarianism with a big ol' rare steak dinner. Phunny, eh?

catholicabuseusrvivorsni.com---its not the first time they refused,---in the past they refused to speak out on the child rape and torture of irish catholic children at the hands of paedophile rome in ireland. hypocrites?

Well said Seanomelb !!

You know, I do get a bit tired of Bono and Bob, but they must enjoy that charity schtick, so let 'em be. However, who gives a sh!t what O'Connor has to say OR sing! She is infamous for three things - shaving her head, tearing up the Dope's pix on SNL and hating everything. I can't even name a song she's written or sung. She's gone over the top and not just now, but for a good decade or so. Is there a doctor in the house to help this poor creature? Maybe just hopitalization...FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE might be the answer. I'd prefer to have a woman's point of view included, like Enya, both in speak and music. Sla'inte!
herselfathome | Jun 20, 2012, 06:42 PM EDT
The Bono fellow has had his picture taken with just about every public figure throughout the world. Isn't it time he stopped acting in a childish manner and grew up. His immaturity is embarrassing. OK, OK so he copies Geldof with the charity thing. ENOUGH. AND, why in God's name should Sinead O'Connor speak at the Aung Suu Kyi rally. Will these people ever get enough publicity.?
seamus60 | Jun 20, 2012, 12:49 PM EDT
Give both the pratts hell Sinead.
WoundedKnee | Jun 20, 2012, 07:50 AM EDT
Dunn: Good lyrics. Maybe one of the pompous preachers Bozo and Bob could use them in what passes for a "song".
Calon_Lan | Jun 20, 2012, 06:26 AM EDT
I just felt a cold shiver going right down my spine as I thought about being stuck in a lift with O'Connor, Geldof, Bono and O'Gorman. It's going to take me a few hours to get back to normal!!

Sir Bob bends the knee to the killer bee That Dutchman likes those orange trees Paul and Bono sing the pipes of peace Then Kiss the ass of the commandeering chiefs Dunner Australia

Boy, I'm glad to know what Sinéad thinks. I heard Bozo the Clown say today that she is a nutcase. Who cares what she thinks of anybody?
NYCsheridan | Jun 19, 2012, 10:57 PM EDT
Why would either Geldof or Bono want that nutcase on he stage?
pilib04 | Jun 19, 2012, 09:43 PM EDT
Certainly I would trust Sinead long before the other two. Sinead has been very up-front throughout her career. I would think Aung Suu Kyi's would support Sinead's free speech.

I can't believe all those self-loathing "Irish" in this forum. Bono is by far the most successful export in the history of the Irish Republic, and yes, he also does a lot of good in the world, standing up for the downtrodden all over the planet. U2 and Bono are one of the very few highlights Eire has to offer these days. You should be proud of them! What is it with you people? Are you envious of Bono's fame? His wealth? His talent? Plus, this band stills rocks, they are still absolutely awesome! They are hot, you are not! Get over it.
Bythebay | Jun 19, 2012, 06:50 PM EDT
Bono - Paul Hewson - and Bob Geldof are both opportunists, using Aung Suu Kyi's award to promote themselves. Geldof doesn't even live in Ireland, Bono rarely lives in Ireland and refuses to pay Irish taxes. Hewson and Geldof brought British actress Vanessa Redgrave and her daughter as well as British actor Roger Moore among others to be there. Shame on Hewson and Geldof for such ill treatment of O'Connor who's far more real and Irish than they'll ever be.
misneac | Jun 19, 2012, 06:43 PM EDT
We are heartily sick of Bono ,OConnor and Geldof and have no interest in these publicity seeking gobshites ,and its time the people of Ireland told them !
seanomelb | Jun 19, 2012, 06:42 PM EDT
Geldof is about as Irish as Margaret Thatcher and Bono is so far up himself he can see daylight. No one was going to steal their undeserved limelight.
GregShox | Jun 19, 2012, 06:40 PM EDT
Whatever about calling Aung San "Kyi" in a knock-off internet post, what about asking Bonzo if he's willing to pay tax in Ireland? After all, he makes enough money from being a professional Irishman.

asnyder Considering all of the good these two men have done for the world, as opposed to all the negative ? that Sinead has put forth, I think they did the right thing. She has a track record of causing unnecessary strife so why give her an opportunity to do so here?" Really, and exactly how much of their own money have these two boys donated to anything? How much of the money actually went to Africa? What a pity the media do not print on the reality of the two boys.Maybe they feared Sinead speaking the truth as she did when tearing up the picture of the Roman pope? While people like to call her a looney, she can sing and perform unlike the so called sane of this world. Did you ever spare a thought as to why she is plagued with mental problems?Abuse. Anyway as all judges in Ireland will tell you- "All women are feeble minded". It is our wombs you see- hysterical isn't it. Ah yes, Sinead is the wild woman aspect of the Goddess, the part all humans fear. So when they fear her, they attack her. Surprised the witch hunters are not out in force too.
Mgvsmith | Jun 19, 2012, 03:47 PM EDT
Just for the record the event was about Aung San Suu Kyi not Sinead O'Connor who has been very random in some of her words and actions at times.

It's about time someone started to expose this unholy Alliance!

My comment follows my repeat of "Wounderknee's" I have to agree with the comment by "Woundedknee" :With all her problems, there's something authentic, even noble about Sinead. There's no comparison between her and the posturing preaching bores Bono and Geldof. For one thing, Sinead has roots in her culture,as can be heard in her beautiful renditions of She Moves Thru The Fair and other traditional songs. Bono's culture is the Mid-Atlantic, while Geldof's is London. And another thing--Sinead pays her taxes, Bono and Geldof are proven to use accounting tricks to avoid paying taxes. And to follow up with my own. The last paragraph of this article refers to, to Sineid's private life and struggles and really has nothing to do with the actual story. Was it added on to cheapen or make her comments less valid? I'm a Canadian male of Irish decent, but see a real degrading of her comments by adding that last paragraph. (quote) "O’Connor has been much in the news recently over comments she has made on various topics including her search for a new husband, her hasty marriage, and her sex life". Again what does this have to do with anything.

In just love it when people like them go after each other, great stuff give me more. Find out what Boso thinks about her?
sirpeter | Jun 19, 2012, 01:39 PM EDT
Thank God they stopped her.One can never be sure what crap she is going to come out with.
Silling | Jun 19, 2012, 01:23 PM EDT
Al Capone was in prison for tax evasion and treated like a king as it was seen as a very noble form of robbery. Anyone who openly admits to being a conscientious contributor to a corrupt regime must have some serious character defects. So, go on Sineid, pay your Irish taxes and support the system of which you feel victim. Sounds like a prisoner telling the jailer that one of the tails have fallen of the "Cat of Nine" during the last whipping.
Silling | Jun 19, 2012, 01:04 PM EDT
Democracy has run its course and why anyone would spend 10 years trying to promote it is a mystery! Aung Suu Kyi can't sing but at least she managed to get on the bandwagon.
AengusOg | Jun 19, 2012, 01:02 PM EDT
Sinead has provided IC with another lead story. Seriously. IC has documented her plummeting mental stability and now Sinead is presented as a downtrodden voice of sanity.

I saw Sinead on, I think it was Larry King's, a few years ago.. One subject they talked about was her tearing up the Pope's picture on SNL.. In the interview she explained it was to protest the massive cover up by The Church of the widespread abuse in Ireland of children by Catholic priests.. I don't think very many people in this country (USA) (and maybe other countries too) understood what she did was all about.. it wasn't very well explained by the media from what I remember.. I think she got more publicity protesting her not being able to speak at the concert than she would if she had be allowed to speak.. I don't think she would say anything more controversial than she hasn't already said.. I think she's very talented and beautiful when she lets her hair grow.. She kind of reminds me of an Irish Britney Spears in some ways.. I played with a band where one night our lead singer stuffed a picture of Sinead O'Conner down his pants - just to get attention.. Re: Bono and Geldorf not paying taxes.. I think I read somewhere that Ireland, to encourage the arts, exempted income from artistic endeavors from paying taxes.. They may have overdone it.. I read Abba paid almost half their income in taxes to Sweden.. In this country, The USA, we have a class of very rich people who don't pay their fair share (if any share) of taxes when their help is most needed.. Unfortunately we've become a plutocracy as we slide down into a virtual 3rd world feudal society.. Thanks from Florida!

How ironic. How sad. At a forum celebrating a woman who had her voice silenced for years yet another woman has her voice silenced.
Jim McKay | Jun 19, 2012, 11:44 AM EDT
Well said Sinead,Bone Head (Bono) would be better paying his tax's in Ireland if he wants to do the right thing.Irish people are sick of his double standards. We also and see right through him even if others do not.
Irishboy1952 | Jun 19, 2012, 11:25 AM EDT
For once I agree with Sinead on something. Not that it makes me happy. I like when BOZO comes out and says the USA should do this and that! I know , hey Bozo, use all your money on your projects and stand up and MAN UP. Oh, you are standing, sorry. Then MAN UP... Lead by example, give all your money and I will say your a MAN. Until then make like a tree and leave...

CroughPatrick | Jun 19, 2012, 11:10 AM EDT
on the one hand, she should of sang and after the event politely told the press that she also wanted to speak but they would not let her. now of course, the reason you dont let her speak is because she's a loon and you dont know what exactly she is going to say. She might start attacking Obama, the Catholic Church, men, lesbians, who knows. She should of just sang so at least people could see she still has talent and she is not a loon all the time, but as you can see, she;s wacko 24 7. on the other hand, she's right about Bono not paying taxes in Ireland or more specifically U2 the corporation doesn't pay taxes in Ireland anymore. Even Geldof has his money hidden away. I dont blame them really, but once they get on their soapboxes, I tune them out too.
SeamusMor | Jun 19, 2012, 10:28 AM EDT
Skinhead O'Connor is a crazy bitch who can sing. Her infamous SNL appearance, where she tore up a picture of His Holiness Pope John Paul II, is the perfect example of why that lunatic should not be allowed to speak. She would probably ask the crowd if anyone had some hash, or wanted to have sex with her. I am waiting for the final tragic conclusion of her troubled life so people stop writing her.

I will have to disagree with Portia777. While I agree with the idea that Sinead's sex life has nothing to do with this nor anyone's for that matter, I feel that Sinead has exploited herself over and over. Nothing she says, at this point, has any bearing on anything ... the "goose or the gander." This poor, talented woman needs some help and not help to place herself in a position for more ridicule. Perhaps she should find herself ... it pains me to see her out of control behavior.
bunkerisland | Jun 19, 2012, 10:06 AM EDT
You can sing but don't speak? What entertainer would accept that kind of restriction and control. Bono is Bozo! Take all of me or none of me you twit.
Portia777 | Jun 19, 2012, 09:28 AM EDT
Sinead is spot on. These two excuses for the male really showed their true colours. St Bob is not what he presents to the public either. But I guess that truth will soon show itself. What has Sinead's sex life got to do with this? If that is the case let us bring in Bob Geldof's sex life. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
