Sinead O’Connor has launched an extraordinary attack on Bono and Bob Geldof after she claims they refused to let her speak at an Amnesty concert for Nobel Prize winner Aung Suu Kyi in Dublin on Monday. She referred to Bono as “Bozo” in her attack made on Twitter.

O’Connor was asked to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U” for the Burmese leader who was in Dublin to receive the Freedom of the City. Over 2,000 turned up to hear the concert.

She refused to sing after being told she could not speak. She tweeted: "So Geldof and Bozo, u pair of lily livered cowards. Next time u want to insult me Do it to my face and dont evilly send... [director of Amnesty International Ireland] Colm O’Gorman to do it. "

"There is no such thing as freedom of speech for women in Ireland on this day, when the nice lady from Burma is being celebrated by those who... have attempted to gag a female artist, while at the same time exploiting her singing abilities."

She also attacked Bono for his tax exile record, tweeting: "I pay my taxes in Ireland Bozo."

She stated she would still love to perform for Kyi. "She is lovely. I will be happy to sing privately for her any time."

O’Connor has been much in the news recently over comments she has made on various topics including her search for a new husband, her hasty marriage, and her sex life.

Hmmm, I personally don't know what the fuss is about? They're going to fight over anything(protocol in this case) as they celebrate a representative of peace and freedom. Is somebody missing the point of her visit? Perhaps when the folks involved her can disagree and still support each others right to a different opinion her, Aung, message will have been heard. This is kind of like celebrating vegetarianism with a big ol' rare steak dinner. Phunny, eh?

You know, I do get a bit tired of Bono and Bob, but they must enjoy that charity schtick, so let 'em be. However, who gives a sh!t what O'Connor has to say OR sing! She is infamous for three things - shaving her head, tearing up the Dope's pix on SNL and hating everything. I can't even name a song she's written or sung. She's gone over the top and not just now, but for a good decade or so. Is there a doctor in the house to help this poor creature? Maybe just hopitalization...FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE might be the answer. I'd prefer to have a woman's point of view included, like Enya, both in speak and music. Sla'inte!

The Bono fellow has had his picture taken with just about every public figure throughout the world. Isn't it time he stopped acting in a childish manner and grew up. His immaturity is embarrassing. OK, OK so he copies Geldof with the charity thing. ENOUGH. AND, why in God's name should Sinead O'Connor speak at the Aung Suu Kyi rally. Will these people ever get enough publicity.?

Certainly I would trust Sinead long before the other two. Sinead has been very up-front throughout her career. I would think Aung Suu Kyi's would support Sinead's free speech.

I can't believe all those self-loathing "Irish" in this forum. Bono is by far the most successful export in the history of the Irish Republic, and yes, he also does a lot of good in the world, standing up for the downtrodden all over the planet. U2 and Bono are one of the very few highlights Eire has to offer these days. You should be proud of them! What is it with you people? Are you envious of Bono's fame? His wealth? His talent? Plus, this band stills rocks, they are still absolutely awesome! They are hot, you are not! Get over it.

Bono - Paul Hewson - and Bob Geldof are both opportunists, using Aung Suu Kyi's award to promote themselves. Geldof doesn't even live in Ireland, Bono rarely lives in Ireland and refuses to pay Irish taxes. Hewson and Geldof brought British actress Vanessa Redgrave and her daughter as well as British actor Roger Moore among others to be there. Shame on Hewson and Geldof for such ill treatment of O'Connor who's far more real and Irish than they'll ever be.
