An anonymous donor  is paying for little Cork girl Megan Malone’s life saving treatment in New York.

Megan, aged 3, was diagnosed with an extremely rare and malignant brain tumor, medulloblastoma. The treatment alone costs $400,000 and there were fears she would die without it.

But now all their financial worries are over.

A family spokesperson told the Examiner newspaper, “We have just received confirmation that the treatment costs for Megan, in the USA, will be covered by a third-party donor.

"A board of trustees has been appointed to manage all funds within the trust.

"We would like to thank everyone for the incredible generosity shown to date and for your continued support for Megan. Only two children in Ireland are diagnosed with this type of tumor every year. If she remained in Ireland for treatment her survival changes would be just 20 percent."

Her parents first realized she was sick when Megan (3) started vomiting and losing balance. This was also the week that the Malone family welcomed a new brother into the world, Tristan.

Following a scan at Cork University Hospital Megan was rushed to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin. She had multiple brain tumors of grade four severity. The cancer had spread to her spine and the rest of her brain.

Thankfully at the New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital in New York, an expert in a new type of aggressive chemotherapy believed the treatment could save her life. Unfortunately this treatment costs almost $400,000, and the family would also have to pay for transport and accommodation.

Now their worries appear to be over as the anonymous donor has solved all their financial worries.

Megan is now in New York and is responding well to the treatment. Megan was joined by her mom and dad, John and Sheila, along with her siblings Tristan, Chloe and Dylan.

Initially, the family had denied that there was a donor. Now the donor has come forward but wishes to remain anonymous. The family have now set up a board of trustees to manage the funds.
